Synod of Seven

The Synod of Seven is the primary governing body within the city of Nadhorod that, alongside King Gareth Helmar IV, work to guide the progression and growth of the city, as well as pass and dispute laws and ordinances. They are also occasionally called upon to dispense justice in cases of greater import than the day to day cases typically handled by lesser judges.

History

The history of the Synod is tightly intertwined with that of Nadhorod. Forming in 527 A.S., a few generations after the founding of the city, the Synod has grown and evolved right alongside of it.   One of the most significant events in the early history of the Synod is the treachery and the subsequent obliteration of the House of Rhodien, an event which is still one of the most violent conflicts that has happened in the region.

Infrastructure

While today the beautiful Seat of the Seven is home to the Synod and their dealings, the original seat of the organization was a simple, single story longhouse in the center of what is now the market district of the city.

    The Synod Is Founded
    Political event

On the 10th day of the 5th month in the year of our emancipation 527, the most prominent of the seven houses that founded the city nearly 300 years ago came together to form an official centralized government. This was the end result of heated meetings and debates held over the previous fifteen days, where the families were organized based upon their objective power and less objective usefulness to the city as a whole. The result was a council that would meet in secret to discuss their plans for the direction of the city, both diplomatic and financial.

The Fall of the House of Rhodien
    Political event

In the fall of the year 635, a line was crossed. Rhodien, one of the ancestral Great Houses of Nadhorod, used black magic to kill the infant heir of the Holdefax dynasty. Retribution was swift and absolute; the house Rhodien was obliterated by the combined might of the other six houses of the Synod, with every member executed on sight and their lands leveled and razed.

    Trade With Jirske Opened
    Diplomatic action

After several generations had come and gone, tensions between those who founded the city to escape persecution and their persecutors cooled to almost non-existence. The Synod officially opened up a trade route through The Wilderidge, revoking laws that in the past allowed punished even up to execution to those who traded with the city-state.   Trade might be open, but the Wilderidge is not a region for the faint of heart. All matter of beasts and brigands call those mountains home, and riches are to be made from all sides by those who brave the paths through them.
