Orion Sisley
Orion Sisley is the son of Matthias Sisley and Eleanor Bryn Sisley. His father was a Council Member from 1908, the year Orion was born.
For many years, the real power in his family was his great-uncle (Matthias's uncle), Lord Phineas Sisley. After the events of Magician's Hoard, the title came to Matthias until his death due to cancer in 1938, when Orion inherits the title.
Orion was a particular charge of Isembard Fortier during his time at Schola (in Fox House). Once Orion left school, both Isembard and Thesan Wain became treasured friends and sources of advice and good sense in Orion's life. Orion is autistic - something that shows up in Eclipse, but which is much more visible in Illusion of a Boar.
The other great gift of Orion's life is his friendship and chosen brotherhood with Claudio Warren, who explains things in a way that makes sense to Orion almost all the time. Orion looks up to Claudio (despite Claudio being a year younger), and Claudio has helped him moderate a number of his more energetically difficult responses.
Orion married Decima Chambers in 1936. His son Melchior was born in 1937, and his daughter Sybil was born in 1940, after one of his brief leaves from front line service in the Second World War. (Illusion of a Boar discusses his family in more depth.)
Orion challenged for a Council seat in 1938, without success.
Orion and Claudio both appear a number of times in Eclipse, and are main characters in Illusion of a Boar. Orion appears at the end of Three Graces for a key moment in his life.
Illusion of a Boar
At the beginning of Illusion of a Boar, Orion has had a horrible six months. A hand injury invalided him out of direct fighting - something he was brilliant at - and he came home to find baffling and unexpected betrayal. Over the course of the book, he manages - with help from Claudio, Thesan and Isembard - to figure out a new way forward, and into something possibly wonderful.
Three Graces
At the end of Three Graces, Orion makes a successful challenge for the Council, with his friends supporting him.
As The Ground Shifts
As The Ground Shifts focuses on Orion and Claudio after the events of Illusion of a Boar. It includes a duel with Gabriel Edgarton and several notable conversations.
