Alexander Orlovsky

Alexander Orlovsky (1983-2055) was a Russian, and later Siberian military officer, statesman, and the first President of the Siberian Independent Republic. Widely regarded as the "Father of Siberia" or "the Siberian George Washington", he continues to be widely regarded outside of Russia - where he is viewed as one of the greatest traitors of all time.

Orlovsky was born in Omsk during the waning days of the Soviet Union. He grew up as communism fell, replaced with the turbulent early days of the Russian Federation. His family managed to avoid the worst of the 1990s as the country moved into the new millennium. After completing his required education, he volunteered in the Russian Armed Forces as an officer in the Army. He found his advance through the ranks hampered by corruption, but still managed to achieve the rank of colonel.

During the Russo-Ukrainian War, Orlovsky led several units against Ukrainian lines near Kyiv, and later in the Donbas. Later in the war, his unit was selected as the rearguard during the catastrophic retreat from Mariupol. Although his unit attempted to hold the line, they were fixed in place and outflanked by Ukrainian units, who managed to annihilate a large part of the retreating Russian army. Although his actions in Mariupol (and his subsequent orderly retreat) were recognised, he was also blamed for the disaster and sidelined.

When the nuclear bombing of Kharkiv was ordered, Orlovsky was horrified. His faith in the institution of Russia shattered in the blink of an eye. Even as NATO forces destroyed much of the Russian military in retaliation, Orlovsky considered retirement. However, he was persuaded not to by a group of officers that would later go on to perform a coup d'état against Presiden Vladimir Putin.

When the coup failed, the FSB cracked down hard. They were particularly brutal in Orlovsky's home city of Omsk, where they executed many of the city's leaders for charges of treason. This was the final straw for both Orlovsky and many other Siberians. Orlovsky convinced his unit to defect to the newly-formed Siberian Independent Republic, who immediately promoted him to Colonel General.

While frontline military clashes with the Russian Army were infrequent, owing to its mauling at the hands of Ukraine and NATO, Orlovsky found his true calling in the stateroom. He was able to convince foreign diplomats to support the fledgeling republic, and regularly went on national television and internet livestreams to convince the Siberian people to continue the war.

In the end, the Russian Armed Forces were not able to sustain their losses. Siberia won its freedom, and Orlovsky was elected president in a landslide victory. While many of his policies were praised, such as fighting corruption, building institutions, improving services, and providing relief to war-torn regions, he was harshly criticised for his support for charter cities.

Orlovsky retired after two four year terms as the President of the Siberian Independent Republic, and retired in the capital of Novosibirsk. He lived for another decade and a half, before dying at age 72.

Hi there! You may not know me, but I am the sponsor of the Great Leader of Their People Summer Camp Prompt this year! Since you wrote this article, I would like to know, would you mind me reading it aloud on my Twitch channel this week? I have a lot to get through so it helps to do it live while people watch. I've scheduled to go live at 8am and 8pm Eastern Time every weekday. If you join and comment, I can go over your article right then and there! If you'd like to coordinate a specific date, let me know. If you aren't able to make it (or don't want to be present live), you can also always watch streams after the fact on my YouTube channel   BUT, if the answer is NO because you'd rather I not, it's okay! Not agreeing to be streamed definitely does not put you at any disadvantage for winning in my eyes. Please respond swiftly by replying here (make sure to click REPLY under my comment or I won't be notified), message me on my World Anvil profile page, Discord, or anywhere else you find me online.   Thanks again! Whatever you choose, God bless and much success! <3
