Nanimal

Nanimals are nano-creatures that are raised to perform maintenance on spaceships. As technology became smaller and smaller, it was important to have creatures that were able to move into the nooks and crannies of spaceships without disturbing the delicate wiring.
There are several species of nanimals, although the most common are space ants and nano bees. Nano chimeras are also rising in popularity due to the ability to mix and match desirable characteristics from a variety of animals without requirements for reproductive compatibility.

Nano-systems

Each good spaceship will have its own small flock of nanimals, often with specialized ecosystems to support them.
Nanimals must be able to function in zero gravity and are mostly adapted to have very small needs in terms of food, water, and excrement management. Many systems have been developed that interface with space ships of a variety of generations in order to allow nanimals easy entrance and egress from the inner workings of the space ships.

Training

There are specialized, highly trained nanimals that are used as officers of nanimal teams.Training is performed mostly on nanimal nurseries that are common throughout the cosmos. Nanimal trainers are highly skilled and must work in nanoscopic hoods to train the animals. They use pavolvian conditioning to engage the nanimals in their training exercises at first, but most nanimal officers have high levels of intelligence that allow them to become more involved in their training than just responding to rewards.

Origin

Nanimals were bred by nano-technologists under the inspiration of Madame Fleck of the Ghent Academy of Sciences, although there are debates that others developed the theory before Madame Fleck. Advanced genetic techniques were used in the breeding as well as some genetic concepts from the before days.
