Raynris Gulf (RAIN-ris)

Curving along the southern border of Sifhelm is the Raynris Gulf. The gulf is home to Sifhelm's trade routes as the Treljar Spine cuts off most, if not all, ability to traverse into the mainland.   Towns and villages along the coast rely on the gulf for most of their food and supplies as the soil isn't best suited to farming and venturing too far inland means possibility of encountering the Swamp. Luckily the folk who call the gulf their home are a pleasant sort that enjoy trading with the villagers and townsfolk, and have been known to even help fishermen fill their nets when times are lean.   Raynris Gulf is home to the Raynari, a somewhat amphibious water folk, who peacefully coexist with the smaller towns and villages that dot the coast of Sifhelm. Their relationship with the capital of Sifhelm is, at best, uneasy. Those from the capital that they interact with are treated with suspicion and are guarded against, vessels sailing from the capital's harbors are monitored and actively followed by Raynari patrols. When questioned about their behavior towards those from the capital it is not uncommon for Raynari to refuse to answer or to simply leave and return to their city. The contrast to which they treat those from the towns and villages on the coast is astounding. It is as if the Raynari can sense when a person has recently been in the capital. In fact, there are stories of villagers who the Raynari have known for many seasons being treated with suspicion and shunned after recently returning from the capital.   The waters of Raynris Gulf are warm and clear and often fishermen say they can see clear to the Raynari city, although that is probably exaggeration. The Raynari live in a ravine at the edge of the Gulf safe from prying eyes of surface dwellers.
