Session II: Engulfed Report

General Summary

With one final blow from its tail, the forager sent the stolen skyship with Calico Jack and Arenza on board careening into the side of a cliff-face. Arenza managed to abandon ship just before the forager made contact for a final time and parachuted to safety. By some miracle of the Timeless Ones, Calico Jack survived the crash relatively unscathed.    Concerned for any survivors, Zaki rushed to the crash site and began searching the skyship's rubble. She heard Calico Jack's voice cautioning her against his indecency as he rummaged through the skyship's coat locker, looking for a new fit. By the time he emerged, Zenora, Gruzdan, Arenza, and Whelani had also made their way over to the crash site, along with the two patrol scouts detaining Zaki and Zenora.    The ragtag group of survivors and refugees decided to stick together for the time being and give chase to the forager and save Wiinken, who, unbeknownst to the rest of the party, has been conversing with Elara Cloudwalker, an eccentric half-elven scientist who has been researching elemental magic from within the ethereal forager, whom she has fondly nicknamed Winslow, for the last five years.    She was born and raised in the Ridgefell Mountains, and when she was about 8 years old, she witnessed the raising of the Floating Isles, or, as the Prehnites call it, the Sundering. She watched as strange things began to occur within and around the craters where the mountain peaks once stood so proudly; local elemental creatures began to evolve at a rapid pace, mundane creatures began to behave increasingly erratically, and new creatures emerged seemingly from nowhere.    Elara began to study these phenomena and discovered that the mountain peaks had been focal points within the natural leyline network that channels magic, elemental and otherwise, throughout Telluria. When the focal points were shattered during the Sundering, it ruptured the network and magic has been hemorrhaging from them ever since, resulting in new and strange creatures and behaviors. For some reason, the scars seem to be slow to heal, and they remain largely the same as when they were first created.    Wiinken absorbed this information in between sobbed and panicked admissions from her own turbulent story and discovered that escape from the forager is indeed possible; she just needs to wait for Winslow to land so she can climb out his blowhole. She also crafted a mechanical owl for Elara as a token of her gratitude, and for some strange reason, the final product was infused with magic, and improved the bearer's constitution (+3 temporary hit points). In an effort to process all this new information, Wiinken took out her mechanical sparrow sending stone and began to dictate her daily diary as she is wont to do, and from within Winslow's bowels she received a response for the first time in decades -- the voice of her beloved uncle Ignatius, thought to be long-dead.   The search party had a stroke of luck on the second day of their pursuit; they ran into a herd of mountain goats accompanied by a black-feathered individual who managed to avert a stampede when Zenora's mage hand got a little too touchy-feely with one of the goats.    The session closed with the search party making contact with the goatherd and his feathered companion, and with Wiinken in shock at hearing her long-lost uncle's voice for the first time.
