Episode 59: A Price Unkind and Murderous
General Summary
After the group left the mine, Reylan, frustrated at what transpired, gave money to some of the others before taking off on Nyx and heading to the market. Finding Paradas, she warned him that Cedric could face consequences for letting them take off with crystals, but the tiefling merchant countered that while the foreman may get a stern talking to from THIEF that those who would face dire consequences would be the party. With the confirmation that an innocent wouldn't pay a dire price, Reylan stood aside and waited for the others to catch up. Upon meeting with the whole group, of which Anopsis followed in order to receive his fair share of payment, Paradas agreed to give them a payment for essentially taking up the job he had asked of Tetran.
After splitting up and with their new ally seemingly disappearing, Tetran, Reylan, and Sarku headed to the library while Valentine, Vasya, and Terra looked around the markets and port for someone willing to buy myrilleum. The latter's search led them to finding someone who directed them to a ship, The Catherine, and to meet with Mr. Green. On board, both Vasya and Valentine were uneasy at sight of a humanoid walking up to them with disjointed movements immediately distrusting the situation especially with the presence of an armored lookout who had them in their sights. In the end, Valentine's desperation to be rid of the crystals led him to selling what he had to Mr. Green-- who upon closer inspection he outed as three kobolds in a jacket causing them to scramble back into the halls of The Catherine.
After some time with books and shopping at the bookstore (Candlelight), the party returned to the Falcon with plenty of food for the crew and started to talk amongst themselves about the day. It wasn't long before Tetran asked why Reylan had handed over platinum before flying off and she explained that she realized too late who they had helped and who they had stolen from- The Harbor Investment Enterprise Foundation known to many in the group as THIEF. She stated that the myrilleum was seen leaving with the group and she had figured that Cedric would pay for letting them get away with it, however, once she was assured just the group would pay for it or whoever their target was, she had eased up. Unmissed by some in the party, both Solanos and Jolly were visibly uneasy at the mention of THIEF and Valentine explained to Tetran that the group was essentially a criminal organization not known for taking it easy on people. The mercenary went on to explain that none could prove he still had it as he had sold it earlier that day.
Other than that, Solanos brought up that before they all head to their next destination, he thought they had best settle in their young ward (and her kenku guardian/physician) with an orc family that he knew of who were kind and protective revealing that he knew one of the Doommaul family who owned and operated a farm on the island. While Chase does seem a bit sad at the young girl leaving, everyone was in agreement that where they were headed is far too dangerous.
As the night settled in, the crew and party turned in for the night with the night watch going around. Both Willux and Tetran were idly going about the ship as they needed no rest while Chase and Nyx patrolled the deck and Raven watched from the crow's nest. In the middle of the night as he wandered about, Tetran passed by a sleepy Jolly who happened to go off into a room after his watch. Heading up onto deck, Tetran spoke a bit to Chase learning that the half-orc girl reminded the drow of his little sister. However, just as Tetran was about to ask him about his family and such, Chase spotted what looked to be a black ravenfolk walking up the upper deck staircase towards the captain's quarters.
As Chase called out to the figure believing it was Raven, the ravenfolk answered from his post... up above in the crow's nest. In a flash of recollection, as Tetran realized that there were intruders on board, he also remembered that Jolly didn't sleep in a room but in the crew's quarters.
Before Tetran could even act, the blades of the assassins on board the Falcon came down upon their targets. Tetran turned to warn his company only to see Chase with a blade jutting from his chest choking on words before collapsing on the ground, Nyx flying about in alarm and panic. In a room on the lower deck, Valentine was violently wrenched from sleep, feeling a dagger rip into his chest. In the captain's quarters, Solanos was also struck in his sleep while Willux found his metal being scratched and dented by an assailant that slipped into the steering room. And before he could even help Chase, Tetran found himself nearly cut down by an assassin that had climbed up and onto the main deck. A price was being paid in blood.
On death's door, Valentine was able to stumble into Vasya's room waking both her and Terra. Nyx's mental cry of fear and despair ripped Reylan from sleep allowing her to hear a message being directed toward Solanos before the assassin struck him down. While Raven was quickly able to ring a bell to wake the rest of the ship up and alert any and all nearby to distress, Willux speared his would-be-assassin multiple times before rushing to the open captain's quarters. Entering the room and taking in the sight of his dying friend, the gearforged began to steam in rage.
Thinking on his feet, bleeding out, and one strike from death, Tetran shifted into the guise of the avian mine guard able to stay a killing blow by dumbfounding the avian assassin and tricking him into trusting him before dimension-dooring the intruder 500-feet into the air before casting Eyebite (Sleep) and letting him fall to his death. After the fifth assassin finished off the teenager, ignoring the familiar, he turned to open the closest room finding the Rainbow rushing to arm himself and join the fight-- blades cut into the kenku but he remained standing, attempting to fend him off to allow for aid to come.
Stabilizing Valentine, before giving chase, Vasya was able to give Terra a command to subdue the fleeing assassin. Devona, the first of the crew to the deck, tried to wake Chase and attacked the intruder trying to escape. While Reylan was able to heal Solanos as the assassin tried to escape, the captain and Willux rushed after him killing him. Terra was also able to subdue the assassin, knocking him unconscious before the others dealt with the last one present on the ship.
Within a few moments, Rainbow and Chase's attacker was dealt with, the last assassin was captured, and while Tetran landed on board in guise form, he was able to convince and warn the others to stand far to left before a form crashed through the hold gate and onto the lower deck.
Hearing that Valentine was stabilized and in Vasya's room but not getting any response from Jolly, Reylan rushed off the ship and onto the pier frantically looking for their missing crewmate. With Vasya's help, who had joined her after she tried to calm down a transformed Chase, the two found a large crate at the far side of the dock with a bloody shirt and note pinned to its side.
Opening it and finding Jolly barely alive, Reylan healed him best as she could before retrieving him and heading back to the ship, persuading the guards to get the Sheriff-- who, tired and grumpy, eventually took the assassin after evaluating the situation and telling them to meet him at the Guard's Hall the following day.

Notes
⦿ Almost all of the last ten minutes of the session had been retconned due to inconsistencies and played out via text RP. Everyone is witness to a white Tabaxi present on the ship dressed in Tetran's clothes.⦿ While Valentine was able to survive and get to Vasya's room, he was struck down again as Vasya tried to stabilize him.
⦿ Tetran did use his ring to cast Eyebite: Sleep.
Trivia
⦿ The ship where Valentine sold the myrilleum is called The Catherine and is docked right next to the Falcon.⦿ Because a long rest wasn't finished, the party did not have much other resources.
