Vestige: Phoenix

Unlike other creatures of legend, each phoenix can only grant their aspect of power once. These essences of power weave amongst mortalkind and its vestiges are rare to find, with the more powerful phoenix aspects being so scarce they are believed to just be myth.

The mortals who are born with an Aspect of the Phoenix bear no markings upon birth as opposed to those gifted by dragon or unicorn aspects. The vestige marks only appear after the power of an Aspect is used for the first time and will only be visible to those that the phoenix trusts.

Red Fire

Out of all of the Phoenix aspects, this is what would be the one considered the "most common". Tied to fire and flame as all folk are familiar with, it would be easiest to tell who holds an aspect of a red fire phoenix. For while their powers will manifest young often due to distress or extreme protective emotion, if one has a keen eye, they may see the hint of shiny skin that gleams red in the sun. After use of the aspect the first time, the Mark of Red Fire will appear like a brand on them visible only to those of trust.

Other than flight and being able to sculpt their flames and choose who will be burned by their magic, they are gifted telepaths able to cast Detect Thoughts without a target realizing they'd delved deep if successful.

Blue Fire

Rarer to find, there is no mark upon birth of any who is destined to bear the Mark of Blue Fire. However, the mortal will find themselves early in their life set apart by their unique connection to nature and all its elements. Their abilities will manifest once they have better control of their emotions and when they are calm and present in their favorite element (environment).

As Blue Fire phoenixes seem to be more focused on safeguarding the environment and protecting nature and the world, its power selects one who will continue the mission as a mortal.

Other than flight, vestiges have the ability to commune with nature as well as wield the elements the more in touch they are with them.

White Fire

The rarest and brightest of all phoenixes was the first to impart its aspect to mortalkind teaching the rest of its kind how to do so. Because of its ties to celestials and the rumored "appearance with Destiny", the powers manifest only in those who are destined for good and great deeds. Similar to blue fire phoenixes, the power slumbers within the person until they are ready to emerge or in cases where the White Fire vestige needs to protect itself, only afterward does the mark appear (and only to those that the phoenix trusts).

Beyond flight, the white fire vestiges find themselves able to tap into telepathic skills as well as any elemental magic they are comfortable with-- however, they are the most skilled with clairvoyance and divination magics even able to

Shadow Fire

While there are no known Shadow Phoenix creatures, this power is rumored to exist from old tales of uncontrollable and destructive flames of shadow. According to the songs, where there is light, there is shadow and the phoenix that rose from the Darkness bore flames black as the night.

Legend states that any marked with that of Shadow Fire are a danger both to themselves and others, but there seems to be nothing more than cautionary tales and whispers of such a thing.
