Within the Kingdom of Aerlyhn, the houses of of the Court sought to gain power and influence and nothing would give more than the hand of the future ruler. Ralos, the legendary warrior of the [redacted] campaign, son of the Third House, Tyriahn, sought glory and the princess's hand after seeing her in battle and then dancing during the lantern festival.
The Charm of the Nobility
Throughout the streets of Aerlyhn, it was known that no one was as charming as he, while his tysts could never be confirmed and he maintained the appearance of a knight wooing women, seemingly showering them with praise and nothing more. It was whispered, however, that he was more of a womanizer, one who earned the word of his many lovers to keep his secret to earn his affection. No one could verify this to level an accusation against his character, but it was thought strange how many women cried in outrage when he had entered the Courting of the Sun to seek the princess's hand in marriage. None raised a word, but there would eventually be joy in the streets, before silence once more.
The Courting of the Sun
As Aerlyhn sought to rebuild its kingdom and strengthen unity amongst the people, the king sought to reintroduce the old custom that had been forgone the past few rulers in order to find Brigga a worthy match. As she herself said that she would settle for no less than a great warrior, many suitors took that as a challenge and thought it fitting that the king restart the ritual trials to fairly determine her consort. However, to many noble's shock, the princess requested that it be open to any and all that wish to take the challenge as she said that a great warrior is not found just in wealth but by those who had to learn to survive. While many nobles took it as a way to show off, Ralos was no exception and he took his time to carefully plan his strategy.
Ralos was the clear favorite amongst the noble houses and he thought himself to be the best match for the princess being closer in age to her instead of nearly two decades older than her in comparison to other noble houses. However, the challenge came in the form of a rogue that had entered the trials by the name of Dhirga. A relative unknown to the kingdom with the only claim to fame being that he had escorted the princess back home, many saw his challenge as an afront to the tradition and bet on his losing fairly early on. However, Ralos knew a warrior when he saw one and saw Dhirga as a decent enough threat of those that had entered without noble blood.
When Dhirga managed to surpass all the challenges alongside Ralos and a few others, the noble knew hwo the true threat was. As the final fight was to emulate the creation of the moons, Ralos strategized with the other members to turn on Dhirga and kill him in the midst of the labyrinth. On the day of, Dhirga found himself nearly slain by the combined forces of the three other champions. He would have been felled, too, if Ralos had not insisted on imparting the killing blow which allowed Dhirga to slice him with a paralyzing toxin before handicapping the others.
The warrior could do nothing but watch as the rogue limped away to the finish line.
Legacy
Bitter and always loathing Dhirga ever since that day, Ralos would eventually join the efforts against the void if only to try and win Brigga through show of valor and heroism. However, his efforts would lead to nothing and little by little his resentment clouded his judgment until he resolved to betray the heroes. However, if not for Brigga's insightful eyes, his charm would have surely won over the others who wanted nothing more than to believe that he would help them in mortalkind's hours of great need. Setting a trap to reveal his treachery, Brigga tricked Ralos into giving away the location of a scouting team led by Dhirga, a location that she herself had trapped for capture. As the location was only one known by Brigga and [redacted], Ralos had shown his hand and was condemned to suffer until the end of his days within the kingdom's prison after telepaths revealed other instances of his treachery.
In his attempt to escape, he fell to his death and cursed the man that took everything from him. His vengeance and deeds inspired a traitor god to follow in Valyrhn's wake and place a red moon in the sky, whose light was dim and whose goal was to destroy Dhirga in this form, set to collide with him and leave just one moon in the sky-- a lone light. Valyrhn, realizing what was done, saved the beacon of light by placing Ralos in a different orbit as she could not destroy it-- however, this would constantly make it appear as if Ralos would separate the two in the sky forever keeping them apart.
It is said that even though this is the case, she didn't mind it because the light of the other two were safe and that it can be seen that no matter what Ralos and those that support him do, the other two will always find their way back to each other.
