The Scribble Scribe

by Joss Wheeler

It is a curious device, a cylindrical shape with a large glass eye that sits in the center and moves as it follows you. It has a slot for two thin extending arms that extend out to write.
Its central eye always tracks you as you move and while it has no face, it seems to give a joyful expression when you call to it. The one I acquired is named " Zipp" and when giving a command such as "Dictate" or "Draw the surroundings" the scribe will pull out a magical device it comes with, the nearest parchment or canvas, and begins to copy what you say or will begin to draw. It should be noted that the scribe is preset to a language, so if you speak one that it is unfamiliar with it will do its best to copy the sounds.   With an array of gears and wires, the scribe quickly puts pen to paper moving in a quick blur, its eye looking between the requestor and the page.   Once its task is completed, it offers the work up for final inspection like a proud farmer on market day. Should there be an error, it will flip it over to inspect it and- well, in the case of Zipp- eat the paper then spit out a blank sheet and start all over.   From what I was told, they seem to retain a memory of around a day, but I've noted that he seems to have picked up some habits. Such as when I play a certain tune, I swear I see it tapping along to it. Although not in the manufacturer's technical manual at all of this device, I do find it quite endearing and unique!   All in all, a scribble scribe is a tool for any bard, historian, or mage that wishes to muse to the air while keeping all his notes down. Sure, there is always the option of using other magical devices, but for those of us not gifted, the scribble scribe is an excellent alternative!
