The Weave of Blade, Talon, and Page

by Mara Jaena

The Spine of Arvanoc homes, imprisons, and hides the nightmares of the kingdom and the Telda'Velahrn- translating to 'Last Guard'- of the Kingdom are all that remains between the people and those that even the Night itself scorns.

History

In the first decade of the Telda'Velahrn, the only identifier given to those that served was a magical rune inscribed onto their armor, shields, or sashes on their robe for each of the three orders-- Talon, Blade, and Page, respectively. Over time as more mages joined the ranks of the guard, it was eventually suggested that a uniform be supplied so that it be clear to identify fellow guardsmen when traveling through the Spine as many more missions dispatched varying soldiers in the area.   The presiding Arandor of the first century was an old friend of the crowned prince and the two worked together to create what became the standardized process of creating a guard's uniform.   Each garment is a modified version of a shiftweave meant to be worn over armor or within the compound of Ravenhearst. It has been modified over the centuries and only major changes were introduced into the process of creating it only after a new (and relevant) discovery was made in the capital. The most recent addition was made decades ago by decree of the late Queen Araméra that of a 'Crystal of Will' was added to each weave.

The Weave of the Talon

As the Order of the Talon partnered with beasts of the region to withhold and subdue the horrors that roamed the area, almost all their garments were created to camoflauge whether in bright daylight or the dark of night. Their primary garb since most patrols occur at night is that of black leather with a debossed emblem on their back. Their secondary and tertiary outfits are built for the terrain to allow them to camoflague with the neverending shadows of the mountains and forests by night or the greenery of the trees by day. While the last outfit is chosen and created by the soldier, their fourth option is rather formal with finely shaped leathers making it seem as if it were part of the whole ensemble.

The Weave of the Page

The Order of the Page guard the secrets that can be found whether it be in book, memory, crystal, or spirit. Their uniform is primarily that of scholarly robes with the sigil of the Telda-Valahrn worn on their front stitched elegantly. Their rank is designated by a supplied sash which is protected by the same enduring rune as the rest of their garb. Amongst the rest of the outfits is a battle uniform, travel wear with hidden aspects of the emblem, formal wear, and lastly, an outfit of the soldier's choice.

The Weave of the Blade

Similarly to the livery of the kingdom, the Order of the Blade sports black with gold trim. However, due to the nature of the area, the gold is dulled down and is very muted compared to the colors of the kingdom. While theirs is to be the one of the Telda'Velahrn commonly seen in the Spine, they may use their second option, the livery of the kingdom with the true gold as they patrol-- with the emblem of the guard debossed on their wear seen by only those who know how to view it. While their third option at clothes is a more formal uniform for events, their fourth and last options are their choice.

Significant Additions

Bloodcoral

Added to the weaves via runic magic and crushed bloodcoral gem dust, tying the uniform to the user and only them. If it were to be separated from its owner, the weave would return to its base form.

Enduring Rune

To protect the garment from magical destruction, an enduring rune was embroidered into the weave during its creation.

Crystal of Will

The late Queen Araméra concepted the idea of the crystal, something that allowed the wearer their last words be transmitted back to Ravenhearst.
