Earth of the Gilded Gaol
What is happiness...really?100 years ago a Cataclysm struck this once lush planet. The ground rose and large mountains formed. Life as the people of this world once knew it changed. In the aftermath, the sapient species discovered what they believed to be a lesser sentient species, the Dragons. This species is the most magical of the planet. Now, the sapient people of this planet cling to the sincere belief that this newfound power will turn the tides in their wars against each other.
The Sapient Species
The people of this world...well. I am one of them. ...my mom always told me if I couldn't say anything nice I shouldn't speak at all. soo...There are currently 4 species that are considered sapient by the other sapient species.
Humans are a versatile and adaptive species known for their resilience, innovation, and diversity. They have a wide range of cultures, languages, and traditions, and are driven by curiosity and ambition. Humans are physically varied and possess a relatively short lifespan.
Alvs are an elegant and ancient species with a deep connection to nature and magic. They are more slender and graceful than humans, with pointed ears and have the longest lifespan among the 4. They are wise, skilled in arts and crafts, and they used to live in harmony with their surroundings.
Trolls are large, fierce and warlike, with a strong sense of loyalty. They are seen as brutish and aggressive by the other species, however, they have a complex culture and deep sense of community. Their live spans are only slightly longer than that of humans. This is the species that is currently doing the best.
Shifters are small, mischievous creatures with a playful and sometimes chaotic nature. Their "real" forms are animal like and they can turn into humans by shedding their skin. They can regenerate quickly, making them formidable opponents. They are also deeply tied to the natural world. Their life span is close to that of the Alvs.
Guilds
Pull at the edges of a blade of grass and it will easily break. But braid the blades together...
There are currently 394 guilds in this world. There are also several more unrecognized guilds. These are too many to list, but they will be listed here when they become relevant to the current stories taking place in this world.
The Emberclaw is a large guild that used to be a country named Eastera. It is still stubbornly hanging on to the area where it used to be located. Even though it's not as lush as it once was. The guild has a huge magical school, Dragonmaw Academy, and access to a Dragon Nestiry.
The Silkfur guild is just as large as the Emberclaw and it also has a magical school, Arcane Dragon Academy, and access to a Dragon Nestiry. It's currently in active "disagreements" with the Emberclaw about resources for their Nestiries.
Magic
Like with everything else. Some are just better at it. It's your loss if you let that get to you. Before the cataclysm, only the rich could learn how to use magic. That's still true, however... now, the rich will pay for those who can learn to use it to add more people to their guilds. The newly found species of dragons add another layer to this, as bonding with a dragon will give a rider access to even more magic.
