Acclimating to Duende

Arrival

When the expansion occurred, several races were pulled into Duende, most crash landing on the planet. While the crashes were certainly not enjoyable experiences, there were, overall, very few casualties. At least, few casualties from the actual crash. However the world that the survivors found themselves on was foreign and dangerous. Each group faced their own unique challenges, but they also all shared one particularly brutal problem. Cut off from everything they knew, they were not sure how to survive.

Some might mistakenly think that the crews were undertrained or underequipped, but the problem was truly more subtle than that. Each crew was comprised of specialists in many fields. However, what the crews could not bring with them was the infrastructure needed to provide the materials that they were used to working with. It took scarcely more than three generations for each population to fall into a sort of 'Dark Age', as they transitioned away from all of the things that they had ever known, learning to start over in an environment unlike any they had known.

Many scholars, such as myself, attemted to make an accounting of all the knowledge we could, but without the frame of reference to understand, new generations could not grasp the things that had always been taken for granted. No more space ships, nor familiar star filled skies. Laws of nature that were completely unlike those that crom from the material plane. To make things more interesting, Duende has peculiarities about it that were most difficult to deal with.

At first, people complained and remembered what once was, bemoaning what had been lost as they tried to hold on to the way things had always been. This too passed with time, as the memories of where we came from slowly faded from the common mind. While the knowledge is not truly lost, it has become increasingly rare and hard to find.
