Prevention
Prevention
Immediately after the declaration of action, and before any rolls are made, characters who are in a position and capable of doing so may attempt to prevent the declared action from occuring, whether it be by counter spell, a disruptive attack to inhibit the aggressor, or putting up a barrier that will prevent the action from reaching its target. Strike, Wield, Fade, and Socialize based abilities may be used for prevention provided that the ability begins with a keyword that provide prevention. If a preventative action is taken, the aggressor and preventor roll opposed initiative checks using the attribute rating efficiency that governs their respective actions.
The Preventor rolls 1d20 + Attributes Rating Efficiency + Prevention
The aggressor rolls 1d20 + Attribute Rating Efficiency of their current action + One of the following:
- Avoidance: they are dodging the prevention while continuing the attack. If they succeed, the prevention misses and the intial attack continues.
- Mitigation: they brace for the impact of the prevention and defend while continuing their attack. If they succeed, the prevention occurs, and they receive any related effects and statuses, but those statuses do not stop their initial attack, though they may prevent future actions.
- Prevention + Loadout Rank: they use their combat knowledge to predict and prevent the type of effects of the countermeasure to nullify them and continuing the attack. If successful, the attempted prevention is prevented. You're welcome.
