Akara Lin

Birth Place

Akara was born in the Southern Water Tribe as the youngest of the five siblings and the only water-bender in her family out of her 3 brothers and 1 sister air-benders, and her master water-bender mother Kawa and master air-bender and air-nomad Ayeng.

Parents

Akara was born in the Southern Water Tribe as the youngest of the five siblings. Her father, Ayeng, is an air nomad and met her mother Kawa, at the Northern Water Tribe when Kawa grew up and trained young ones there for before making trips to the Southern Water Tribe and Republic City as a master-water bender to teach more, and Ayeng came by on Kuva, his flying sky bison to talk to the council members. Ayeng’s home, the Western Air Temple, and the Water Tribes, especially the Northern one, have been very gracious towards one another. Kawa’s best friends are the council members, and Kawa was always invited to every event and public meeting. The council members introduced Ayeng to the Northern Water Tribe with a dinner, and Kawa joined the dinner, and instead of Ayeng and the council members speaking upon the matters that Ayeng came to speak on, he spoke to Kawa and they laughed that entire night. Soon they became best friends and later on fell in love and got married.

Her Childhood

Ayeng and Kawa moved to the Southern Water Tribe, and the parents knew that whether their kids were going to be air-benders, water-benders, a mix, or non-benders, they’d love them unconditionally and grow up in the Southern Water Tribe. They had 5 children, and the first 4 of them were air-benders. Ayeng and Kawa would always take them on long trips to the Air Temples, as Kawa, a water-bender, admired the Air Temples as much as Ayeng. Although they loved the Southern Water-Tribe, Ayeng and Kawa began to rethink whether to move to the Southern Air Temple, due to all of their children being air-benders. However, Akara, the youngest, was born and determined to be a water-bender, and Ayeng and Kawa knew they should stay at the Southern Water Tribe, as they chose from the start. Akara was usually picked on by her siblings, however, she had a loving relationship with them and they all became close very young. Akara always felt badly that her siblings couldn’t play with other air-benders, but her siblings didn’t mind one bit. Even though she lived in Water-Tribe culture, at times, she felt lonely but her siblings always included her in every game they played, from airballs, waterballs, air-bending and water-bending each other into the water and out, whatever the game of the day was. Due to living in the Southern Water Tribe, all of the siblings are extremely familiar with cold weather, and never get cold, even in the thinnest air-nation attire! A few years after Akara was born, the oldest sibling, Sakyag, wanted to live in Air-Nation culture and learn all about it, and her parents accepted, as they visit the Air-Temples all the time and they supported her dreams and desires. Gasan, their older brother, and Yagasto, their other older brother moved with her to the Southern Air Temple, as their interest for living in the Air-Nation culture and living at an Air Temple grew rapidly. Bokang and Akara were the only two in out of all of the siblings in the Southern Water Tribe now, and as they got older they went on their own trips with Kuva, their flying sky bison, to the Southern Air Temple and would stay there for weeks and then come back home to the Southern Water Tribe. Ever since Akara was young, she always loved the idea of Republic City and had an interest in being a part of it, a city for all benders where everyone can learn each other’s cultures and live in harmony. Akara also loved the pro-bending, but that was just a small part of it. A few years passed since Akara’s older siblings, besides Bokang, had moved to the Southern Air Temple and Bokang and Akara asked their parents if they could move to the Southern Water Tribe as well. Akara wanted to learn about her culture and be with her siblings, and Bokang did as well. Her parents agreed, and they moved to the Southern Air Temple, and while Ayeng and Kawa still live in the Southern Water Tribe, they frequently visit the Air-Temples, sometimes for months and sometimes for days! Akara loved being with all her siblings and being close to her culture, but she wanted to be a part of more and train to become a master water-bender, make a positive impact on all of the nations, and help grow and evolve the United Republic Nation and Republic City, a city she admires and appreciates.

The Future Lies Ahead

Akara loves the beautiful city and cares deeply for Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko’s creation of the United Republic Nation in which all benders and non-benders can live in harmony. Akara always admired Avatar Korra’s strength in creating a new spirit portal in the center of Republic City, in which Akara also felt a connection to Republic City due to there being spirit portals in both the Northern and Southern water tribes, where she calls home and where her mother Kawa grew up and called home. Although these events take place long before her time, Akara appreciates stories told to her and loves learning and listening about the formation of Republic City. During her childhood, Akara learned about Avatar Gan Shao in his brainwashed state, destroying the United Republic Nation and Republic City, and felt immense sadness for the people living there during that time, and wants to do her part in making a positive impact on Republic City and all of the nations, the Southern Water Tribe, the Southern Air Temple, the Northern Water Tribe, all of the Air Temples, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the United Republic Nation, doing her part in helping Republic City and the United Republic Nation as a whole grow and evolve. In addition, Akara’s felt as if she had her own connection to the United Republic Nation and Republic City because of how open and central it is, and she wants to use her knowledge, fighting ability, goals, ideas and peace-making mind to help grow Republic City and the United Republic Nation and create a positive impact on all of the nations. Akara, 14 years old at this time, living in the Southern Air Temple with her siblings, told them she really wants to move to the United Republic Nation, even if she has to go alone. They thought it wasn’t safe because she was only 14, but they all truly believed in her passion, dreams, goals, and desires and fully supported her with all of their love and care. Akara was super excited, although she wasn’t excited about leaving her siblings, or telling her parents. Her parents came down to the Southern Air Temple and she told them the news, waiting for them to say you’re too young, however, Ayeng and Kawa looked at each other and hugged her, smiling saying they knew she’d ask at some point soon. Akara was ready to move, and her siblings helped her load Kuva, their flying sky bison. However, to Akara’s surprise, Bokang joined along, and said he wanted to be part of the United Republic and be an air-nomad force to the city and inspire others and help the city in any way she can. Akara was over the top excited, and they both hugged their family and left for the United Republic. As they flew over New Yu Dao Bokang spotted Akara looking at the big Metal-Bending ship, the sandstone homes, and all of the towns in the United Republic Nation, excited for her future.

Moving into the United Republic

After a nice journey across the seas, Akara landed in the United Republic of Nations. As she jumped off her bison, President Jaller, Vice President Renshu, Mayor Kya and Mayor Quali welcomed her. Renshu introduced Akara to the land of the United Republic and offered to show her around the towns, but Mayor Kya stepped in and said she’d show Akara the town of Tong Li. Akara learned Kya was also a waterbender and they swam in the water to Tong Li. Akara soon found herself settling in a quiet town called Tong Li, what she describes as the most peaceful place in the world. Akara didn’t know what to expect, but as soon as she settled there, Mayor of Tong Li Kya greeted her and welcomed her to the small town with open arms. Right as Akara settled in, she immediately began creating blueprints and sticking them around her house. One early morning, just as the sun was rising, Kya knocked on Akara’s door and asked why she was up. Akara explained that she has plans to create a business and headquarters in the United Republic, taking some inspiration from no other than Asami Sato. Akara worked on her blueprints and trained for the next few weeks from Mayor Kya and Tekno, a citizen living in Tong Li. After those few weeks passed, two new citizens joined Tong Li; Itsuki Ishi and Baon Ishi. The smell of alcohol stenched the town but Akara didn’t care. She walked up to the new brewery they had already started building and introduced herself. They immediately hugged her, without even knowing who she was, and their friendship began from there. Akara introduced herself as a new citizen of the nation, and Itsuki and Baon explained how they came to the United Republic for a second chance and to have a fresh start. Soon after this, General Rias wrote Akara a letter and offered Akara the chance to come to New Yu Dao and visit, and Akara excitedly took the offer to travel. She travelled up the mountain of Hemung and back down to the other side, New Yu Dao, where General Rias gave her a tour around from the museum to the newly built sandstone apartments that could fit the entire nation in this one town. She met Nadia, a military lieutenant, living in one of the larger homes of the town. Ideas Forming Nadia whispered to Akara to exit off the tour and they snuck off into Nadia’s basement where she had an underground club. Slowly, more and more citizens began learning about this club and partying underground in New Yu Dao. On Akara’s way back to Tong Li, she thought of the two jobs offered in the nation, politician or government. Akara applied as a politician, but she wanted to do more. She wanted to be the CEO of a business, and from there she quickly ran home and began outlining her own business that she’d hope to create in the nation and promote business and creativity in the nation. She walked to New Yu Dao with her blueprint in her hand and while walking towards the Presidential Home, Akara looked across the river where there was no building in site, no bridge to the other side, just pure land. She waterbended her way other to the other side to see a plot of land full of luscious trees and a beautiful view of the lake and the other side of the lake, also known as New Yu Dao. She waterbended back to the other side of the lake and walked to the Presidential Home. There, she saw President Jaller and asked to speak with him. They went into his office and she asked if she could build a Cafe in that plot of land. President Jaller didn’t care much and didn’t seem to have a problem with it and thus, allowed her to begin her project. As she began building right across the lake, she noticed a cobble and wooden building hidden in the trees, one she hadn’t seen on her journey to the land earlier. She walked around the trees and found a door. She sucked the water out of a plant and sliced the door open. There, she saw cobwebs and an old, unused bar. Akara didn’t think much of it and left back to building her Cafe. Suddenly, someone called out Akara’s name and she turned around to find the source of the noise. The noise came from the other side of the lake, as Nadia waved to Akara. Akara was so excited to see Nadia again and waterbended over to her. Nadia asked Akara to take her over to the other side to see what she was building and so, Akara did just that. Akara showed Nadia around her plot of land that President Jaller approved of, and just like Akara, Nadia saw the old cobble wood building peeking out from the trees. In curiosity, Nadia entered the cobble building and her eyes lit up. Akara followed her in with confusion. Nadia quickly grabbed Akara and took her outside. “Who’s building is this?” she asked. Akara wasn’t sure, and Nadia then said, “then I’m turning it into a club, like the one in my basement.” Akara’s eyes lit up, she loved the idea! They couldn’t wait to have both of their businesses next to each other.

Tong Li Adventures

Akara soon returned to Tong Li after her trip but continued racing back and forth from Tong Li to New Yu Dao often to build her Cafe, meet with Nadia. One morning, Akara woke up and heard noises from the brewery. She got up and walked over to see an air nomad speaking with Itsuki and Baon. Akara curiously walked into the brewery and the air nomad turned around and introduced herself- Amanthi. Akara smiled and asked Itsuki and Baon about why Amanthi was in a brewery. She said she had her masters test today and she was nervous and Itsuki and Baon invited her over. Akara immediately rolled her eyes, jumped over the counter, and snagged the money Amanthi gave the Ishis and returned it to her. “She has a masters test today, she has to be sober.” Akara said as she gave Amanthi the money back, but Amanthi walked past Akara and gave the Ishis the money once more, and they gave her a drink. Akara tried talking Amanthi out of it but it was no use. Soon after, Kya entered through the doors and warmly welcomed Amanthi. The Ishis began making some more drinks and laying them out on the counter and Kya took a bunch and quickly drank them all. Amanthi took a few more and did the same. They all walked out of the brewery, Akara basically carrying Kya because she couldn’t stand, and they all sat outside the common house stairs. Kya and Amanthi were all over each other, and that’s when Kya turned to the side of the common house to see the newly built wedding venue. Kya suggested that the two get married and Itsuki and Baon immediately ran to their homes and got changed into suits. Akara, surprised, but excited, was ready for this drunk wedding. She went home and quickly changed into the nicest dress she could find, it was similar to that her mom, Kawa, wore at formal parties often. Akara walked up and sat in the front row with the Ishis. Amanthi called her friend and soon after, their friend came to ordain the wedding and make it official. Kya and Amanthi stood at the front of the wedding, said very nice drunk vows, and kissed. The Ishis, Tekno, and Akara roared in applause as Kya and Amanthi began taking more drinks, and the Ishis offered drinks on the house, because more drinks was definitely what Kya and Amanthi needed… that was sarcastic. Akara woke up to hear Kya and Amanthi talking over the news that echoed outside of their home. Akara walked over to Kya’s house and opened the door with a smile. Amanthi and Kya motioned Akara to sit and they watched the news. “Ba Sing Se is on lockdown!” Kya looked over at Akara and Akara did the same. They were thinking the exact same thing. Akara told Kya, “I’ve never been to Ba Sing Se but I’ve heard it’s humongous.” And from there Kya suggested that they all go. Kya, Akara, and Amanthi immediately ran out of Kya’s house on the docks and jumped into the water, Amanthi flying over them. They made it to the desert of the Earth Kingdom and took some cactus with them so that they could waterbend up the wall. When they got to the wall, Kya and Amanthi began planting down the cactus and Akara stood there looking up, her eyes almost rolled back. She couldn’t believe the size of the wall and was surprised that they were even going to be able to get up there. Akara was still a beginner waterbender and wasn’t going to be able to gain enough power to make it all the way up the wall. Kya grabbed Akara and pulled her into her arms and before they knew it, water shot up and they were rocketing up to the Ba Sing Se wall. Once they got to the top, Akara coughed up some water and Kya and Amanthi laughed. They ran across the wall and found a puddle of water in the middle of the ring to jump down on and catch themselves. Akara was doubtful that she’d be able to catch herself and was basically confirming her death now. Kya and Amanthi jumped and told Akara to do the same. She did and at the last second was able to catch herself. Kya and Amanthi smiled and they began walking through the middle ring, hiding behind buildings and carts to make sure no one saw them… but that didn’t last long. An earthbender walking in the center of their town caught their eyes and began chasing them. Kya and Amanthi both yelled to run, and Akara looked for a source of water when she found the water fountain. She quickly bended a circle of water around her and unleashed it, rocketing her into the air and on the side of the building. After she got to the side of the building, she jumped over a few more buildings, almost breaking the ceiling of one with her foot, and then she hid behind a window, having no idea where Kya and Amanthi were. She waited till the coast was clear and then jumped down. There, she saw Kya and Amanthi pointing towards the Jasmine Dragon and Akara ran with them. After a bit of drinking leftover tea and sitting in the corner to talk, they decided to go, but that wasn’t the last time they’d break into Ba Sing Se. A few days later, Kya, Akara, Amanthi, Itsuki, Baon, Tekno, Nadia, and Civil and Beans from New Yu Dao made their way over to the Ba Sing Se wall. They waterbended, climbed, and air spouted up the wall until they got to the top. They ran across the rail tracks until they got to the same puddle that the three found a few days before. They all began jumping around, going on top of buildings and walking through the streets quietly to make sure no one heard them. Apparently, that didn’t work. A few Earth Kingdom citizens saw and notified the Dai Li. Kya looked up the walls to see Dai Li searching as the day turned into night. Kya motioned to everyone that we either had to get out or hide, and because there was no way out, hiding was the only option. The Dai Li was on the rail tracks with their flashlights, searching for any sign. Kya and Akara hid under the rail tracks big pillars and soon moved to hide behind some of the houses. All of the group was hiding behind different houses in the middle ring and motioned to start leaving once it was safe, but soon the entire group heard the echoes of the Dai Li and Earth King Taron. Taron was looking for them. In fear they began to hide themselves further, hoping they could blend in with the walls they hid behind. Taron jumped down and began searching and Akara looked around to see everyone gone and saw them bending and hiding elsewhere or running around, but Taron had spotted them. Akara ran up the stairs of one of the houses and tried to open the door- it was locked. She jumped the balcony and went to the next home and the door was opened, it was an outpost. She quickly shut the door and hid, her back on the wall. She began to breathe deeply, thinking she was safe. She heard Taron find the Ishis and then Nadia and then Kya. Civil and Beans must’ve gotten away. Soon, Taron left them and Akara heard earth bending coming her way. Her back began leaning against the wall tighter, and she heard the door squeeze open. She ran to the other wall of the outpost and the door opened with Taron looking right at Akara and motioning her to get out. Akara quickly exited and didn’t want to cause more problems. She went down the stairs in front of Taron to see Dai Li, Civil, Beans, Tekno, the Ishis, Kya, and Amanthi. She stood with them and Taron explained that he will not do anything as long as we leave and not return. Akara nodded and apologized. Taron nodded back at Akara and motioned for them all to exit. As they exited, Kya looked over at Tekno and the Ishis and they began laughing before they were all even out the doors. Akara motioned for them to stop laughing so they all don’t die right here and once they did, Akara let out a small smile that they all made it out alive. Soon, their backs were kicked through the doors and they were back at the outskirts of Ba Sing Se.

Bound Together

Akara was getting to know everyone pretty well. She was visiting New Yu Dao everyday now and was finishing up her Cafe. Mayor Cat of New Yu Dao would often check up on Akara and make sure she was doing well. Kya would sit on the construction of the Cafe and talk with Cat. Mayor Quali of Cranesfish would sometimes visit too and they’d all hang out and yell Nadia’s name when they needed her since she was right next door. It was the next day and Akara finished her Cafe early in the morning. She saw Cat across the bridge and excitedly yelled his name, motioning for him to check out her Cafe. Cat brought his friend, Richard, and both of them checked out the Cafe and loved it. Akara gave them both free cakes and coffees she made throughout the night prior and they all sat on top of the Cafe and ate the sweets. Akara looked out into the water and asked Cat if he was planning to build a bridge from one side of New Yu Dao to the other, and Cat said he was working out the plans with President Jaller. Akara took out a piece of paper and wrote a letter to President Jaller, thanking him for letting her build this Cafe and offered him to come visit. A few days later, President Jaller came to visit and firebended over the one side of New Yu Dao to Akara’s Cafe. The cafe wasn’t his style but he didn’t mind it since it blended with New Yu Dao just fine. Akara smiled and gave him a cup of coffee. He began walking around the edge of the land and water and Akara brought up the New Yu Dao bridge construction. President Jaller said he was talking to Mayor Cat about that and will let them construct it. Akara smiled and was excited to have her Cafe be more accessible in the biggest town in the United Republic. Akara began planning blue-prints and ideas for a cafe in Republic City when it opened as well, since it was still in early construction after the Red Lotus bombing. Akara hadn't ever seen Republic City, but she imagined that it was going to be everything she hoped for and more. A chance for peace, for all the five nations to come together, promote business beyond what she has seen in the world, and for her to learn more water-bending, try to create peace whenever she can and help others, and have a great time in Republic City. She couldn’t wait to tell her family all about it and to experience it all with Kya and her friends in the United Republic. As Akara finished her cafe, she began feeling more pulled towards New Yu Dao. She had met friends there, but she loved her life in Tong Li. Mixed feelings and scrambled thoughts in her mind as Akara walked down the roads of Tong Li. She sat by docks and let the bright sunshine on her, not a cloud in the sky. She heard a door open and close behind her and Kya walked out. Kya asked Akara if they could talk and Akara pointed up the CourtHouse in Tong Li, the top floor. They brought 2 wooden chairs, walked up to the top floor and placed the chairs down. The sun was starting to go down, right behind Akara and for Kya to watch the sunset as she broke the news. Kya told Akara she was no longer wanting to be Mayor. The job was too restrictive and she felt that possibly the Air Nation was calling her, and it was time for a move, temporarily. A few tears shuttered from Akara’s eyes when Kya told her, but Akara understood and said she’d visit often if Kya did decide to leave for a prolonged trip. The conversation was nearing its end when Kya asked Akara, “Would you want to be Mayor of Tong Li? I don’t trust Ishis, I love them but they are not ones to run this town, or Tekno, and you love this place. President Jaller already said it would be ok, I asked him. You can take the position immediately.” Akara was shocked. She hadn’t spoken to President Jaller too frequently so she was surprised he’d allow her to run a town. She got up from her chair and went outside the top floor onto the balcony and walked around, seeing Tong Li from above. Kya looked at her. Akara looked back and went inside and sat back down. “I don’t want to be Mayor. It means so much to me that you trust me after so little time of knowing each other, that you think I would do a good job. But, you and Mayor Cat already told me it was a restrictive job, and I do love this place, but I want to be a business owner. I want to encourage business and be free. I think I may move to New Yu Dao. This will always be my home but life is progressing there and I feel I need to go and hop on the train.” Akara said passionately, a sense of determination filling her eyes. Kya nodded. “I understand. But don’t think I won’t come visit you.” Kya said. Akara laughed and agreed. They got up from their wooden chairs, leaving them on the top floor, and walked down back to their homes. Akara soon wished the Ishis goodbye and told them to visit. She hugged Tekno and thanked him for the waterbending lessons he gave her on the first day. Tekno was being closely watched by the United Republic Police Force. “Don’t do anything stupid, Tekno.” Akara said. They laughed and she took the next train to New Yu Dao. When she got there, Mayor Cat welcomed her with open arms and showed her around the town. Nadia was walking in the streets and helped Akara with her stuff. She picked the middle home on Beifong Street and moved in. She instantly laid out all her blueprints for her Cafe on the walls. Now, her cafe was only a two minute walk away… oh and a quick swim across the New Yu Dao River.
