Life

Lou was born in the city of Omashu to his parents, Shu and Tera. His mother fought in the War of Betrayal for the Earth Kingdom, but abandoned her post to join Shu and his family, who were helping citizens affected by the war. Tera is an earthbender and Shu is an airbender. Shu has two younger siblings, who also had children of their own. Shu and his siblings adapted the name “Shofei” to honor their parent, Sho and Fei‘s, efforts during the war. The grandchildren all took after the name as well.

Lou has two older siblings, Marlo and Jay. Marlo took after their mother being an earthbender, and Jay was born a nonbebder, but later in life became a master swordsman. Lou unknowingly was an airbender for the first few years of his life. He would later discover his ability years after his father had passed. Not having someone to teach him the basics, he left home at an early age to join the Air Nomads. He would eventually make his way to the Western Air Temple. He heard many stories from his grandmother’s time spent there. She would recall tales of the Echo Chamber, and would tell stories of the festivals they had there. He began his life anew, working with the other nomads at the temple.

In his adult life, Lou would focus on diplomatic efforts, becoming the Emissary to the Earth Kingdom. He would work with many Earth Kingdom citizens and would develop a strong relationship with them and the Air Nomads during his time as Emissary. His time spent in that position earned him the title of Head Emissary. He would spend many years working as the head of the branch, trying to keep the peace throughout the world. His attempts would not always be the most successful. War raged on, and some leaders even threatened the Air Temples. The elders at the time were criticized for their lack of effort during these conflicts. Lou took charge and effectively stopped the nations from waging war on the Air Temples. While he stopped the conflict, Lou was furious with his nation’s leaders. They had sat idly by and almost put their own people in harms way. After many years of working to better the nations foreign diplomacy, Lou was asked to step up as the Western Elder.

Due to past council mistakes, Lou vowed to change the ways of the Council of Elders. He worked side by side with the other elders, working to bring change in their nation. Their efforts have been sparse, but with time Lou hopes to bring a brighter future to the Air Nomads.

He often works alongside his fellow nomads, and has developed strong bonds with his people that will never break. He was glad to see his friend Maia Sakurai become Watcher during his time as Elder. He got to see many of his close friends reach new heights. Lou has immense hope for his people, and sees their efforts making a big impact on the nation.

Lou works tirelessly on diplomatic efforts, sometimes taking over other aspects of his life. His grandmother was an extremely spiritual nomad. She had reached spiritual enlightenment in her later years, even teaching her family the ways of the Air Nomads. Lou would receive some of the teachings as a young child, but it never really stuck with him. Even at the Western Air Temple, he failed to unlock his spiritual side. With time he has grown weary, striving for inner peace, but never achieving that goal. Lou often meditates on the fact, and can sometimes reach a physical peace, but his spirit has never been at rest. During his time as Head Emissary, spiritual chaos occurred. He was staying at Air Temple Island, when an unknown spirit, or spirits, attacked many of the Air Temples. During this time, Lou sought to understand the spirits but the other Nomads wanted to protect themselves more. He risked his life to reach out to the spirits during one fateful night. The other nomads were so fearful of the spirits attacking them, that they caused the spirit to grow angry. This cause the unknown spirit to attack the nomads, many were injured, including Lou. This moment changed Lou’s journey of spirituality.

After the scarring incident, Lou began to commune with the spirits more. He finally was able to feel the pretense of a spiritual force. He was able to find some sense of inner peace, and began to go through the 7 chakras. He would share his efforts with the other nomads, holding multiple meditation practices with them, teaching the ways of the chakras. His classes were interrupted overtime as the threats of war began. Lou’s inner peace gave him the ability to resolve the issue before it began. His newfound clarity is what led him to become a great impact on the world. His understanding of life led him to earn the title of Western Elder.
