Mahatma Ryuki
Appearance:
Ryuki’s hair is a silky black color that reaches just above her tailbone. Her eyes are hazel, however in the sun they shine with more of a lighter shade of green. Ryuki’s main choice of fashion is a little bit on the more expensive side, as she often is seen wearing long, elaborate robes and dresses made with some of the finest materials in the Fire Nation. She mainly accessorizes with belts and gold arm bands, but her favorite item to wear over her robes are armored Fire Nation chest plates. Ryuki has light skin, and stands at a height of 5’1”.Personality:
Ryuki often kept to herself, presenting herself as an introverted individual for most of her life. However, the ones closest to her know Ryuki as talkative and outgoing, almost never stopping to take a breath. Those who have not gotten to know her well often believe that she would be an easy target to take advantage of, or that she might be easy to manipulate. However, Ryuki is exceptionally good at standing up for herself, as she absolutely does not tolerate anyone slandering her. Ryuki will regularly attend events around the Fire Nation, however she mainly keeps to herself if she is not familiar with anyone at the event. Growing up in the Fire Nation, she would take her time whenever she could to just sit outside and admire the beauty of the world, finding that spending time outside the busy cities where there had been many places in nature to explore would help her calm and clear her mind. As a result of spending the time to connect deeply with nature, she started to believe that in order to better herself, she had to start connecting with the spiritual side of the world. Ryuki wants to be able to understand the world around her, and she is seemingly always working where she can towards improvement and change within her nation.Biography:
Ryuki was born in 288 A.G. to her parents, Miki & Taketa Amura. She had spent her childhood being raised in the Fire Nation’s capital city, Caldera. Ryuki’s parents had been well known and respected figures in the Fire Nation’s military, so money was never a major issue for their family. Ryuki had been an only child, and her parents had spoiled her with whatever she had wished for. At the young age of 4 years old, Ryuki’s parents had discovered that their daughter was a fire bender. Almost as soon as they had found out, they started training her on bending the element of fire. By the age of 6 years old, Ryuki had the basics down. To celebrate Ryuki’s new knowledge of fire bending, her parents had decided to take a family trip to the Spirit Oasis up in the Northern Water Tribe. This was her family’s very first vacation together, and this spot quickly became her favorite. The ice, snow, and negative temperatures outside made the Northern Water Tribe almost unbearable to walk through, but somehow the Spirit Oasis had felt warm and welcoming. As the Spirit Oasis held two of the most powerful spirits, Tui and La, the moon and ocean spirits. The spiritual energy at the spot was strong, Ryuki had never felt this type of energy before. This would be Ryuki’s very first experience with spiritual energy. After their time in the Northern Water Tribe concluded, Ryuki very happily told her parents that she had wanted to travel the world and experience many different places similar to the Spirit Oasis. She told her parents wherever she would go, she would bring them along with her. When they returned home from their trip, Ryuki officially started school. She was a very outgoing and energetic child, however the teachers and other children in school would not appreciate any disruptions, so Ryuki would often find herself in trouble with her teachers. After she had realized how her actions were getting her introuble, she started to tone herself down while at school. She didn’t talk to many people, and many of her classmates had already made their decision about her, so she had a hard time making friends. Going through school, Ryuki was always a hard worker. She kept her grades up, even taking up extra credit even if she didn’t need it. Outside of school, Ryuki would spend her time exploring the streets of Caldera. Ever since her family’s trip to the Northern Water Tribe, she had dreamed of seeing the entire world, traveling to anywhere and everywhere she could. Ryuki didn’t like being stuck inside, she would often sit at the Caldera Lake to do her homework. While going through junior high, Ryuki and her class were taught about the different branches and jobs that their nation had to offer. Because her parents were such powerful figures in the Fire Nation’s military, Ryuki wanted to make her parents proud. Military was not what had caught her eye though, instead it was the Fire Sages that had Ryuki interested. Specifically, the Crescent Sages. The Crescent Sages were a spirituality based branch of the Fire Nation, working anywhere they needed within the nation to maintain spiritual balance. This fascinated Ryuki, and she had officially decided that she needed to look deeper into the branch and find out everything she could about the Crescent Sages. Throughout her childhood, Ryuki’s mother had told her many stories about ancient spirits, even stories about past Avatars who had used the Light Spirit, Raava, to bring peace and balance to the world. All of the tales of spirits, Avatars, and adventures had filled Ryuki’s head with hope for her own spiritual adventures one day. High school started off as a breeze for Ryuki. She had already set her sights on becoming a Crescent Sage, so she spent her last few years in school learning the histories of the Fire Nation, the Fire Sages, and she learned as much as she possibly could about the Avatars who had been originally born in the Fire Nation. Making new friends still did not come easy to Ryuki, but it wasn’t bothering her as much as it did when she was younger. Unfortunately, in her junior year, Ryuki’s world came to a halt. Ryuki’s parents had been out of the Fire Nation, fighting in a battle which would unexpectedly be their last. She was informed of their death a week after it had happened, as her parents' squad had pulled off of the field after the loss. Her parents’ squad leader felt he should personally deliver the news. He had presented Ryuki her parents’ badges resting on top of a folded Fire Nation flag, and offered to help out with the funeral anyway he could. Ryuki’s parents had a beautiful send off, and in the moment before her parents had been buried, she promised them that she would work hard to achieve her goals, and she promised that she would connect with them again one day. As Ryuki finished her last year of school, taking her time to breathe and grieve, she still did not lose focus of her goals. She would spend her mornings and afternoons in school, and instead of going to Caldera Lake to do her homework, she would get it done at home so she would be able to visit her parents' graves. Ryuki would leave flowers, snacks, and trinkets she would come across that she thought her mother or father would’ve liked. She would do this in hopes of keeping her parents’ spirits at peace. After finishing school, Ryuki was looking forward to having the time to travel, and to work on her firebending. For the first few weeks, she had started to continue her firebending training. Throughout school, almost everything came easy to her. There wasn’t a single test she had gotten below an A grade. Firebending, especially combat firebending, did not come as easy. At only 6 years old, she had firebending basics down, but anything past that had been a little bit more difficult for her. Ryuki wasn’t someone to give up easily, though. She trained as hard as she could for weeks, getting better little by little. Needing a break from her firebending training, Ryuki took advantage of her time off to travel by herself for the first time. Her first stop was an island east of Caldera called New Arsen. Here, she met two residents of the island who welcomed her to their home. Ryuki talked to them, told them her story and where she had come from, and they had told her that they believed she would do great in pursuing her goals. Then after a small tour of the island, Ryuki had decided New Arsen needed to be her new home. Shortly after visiting the island she moved into a house on the edge of town. Before she resumed her firebending training, she took her time to travel farther this time. She had gone back to the Northern Water Tribe looking to visit the Spirit Oasis once more. When Ryuki had finally reached the Spirit Oasis, she sat in front of the pool that contained the ocean and moon spirits, Tui and La. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and began to meditate. She had learned that the Fire Sages had used meditation as a way to mentally and physically calm themselves. They would also use meditation as a way to make a connection to the spirits, which would lead Ryuki to believe that by meditating, she may have a chance at making a connection to her parents. As Ryuki sat in silence, all she could hear was the water of the pool in front of her. She had continued to sit and meditate, but she wasn’t hearing or seeing anything. Right as she had thought about giving up and leaving, she heard something - a whisper. Ryuki’s eyes shot open believing there may be a spirit in her presence, but there had been nothing there. Nothing to see anyways, she still heard the faint whispers but couldn’t make out any words, or tell where it had been coming from. Before Ryuki could figure any of that out, the whispers had completely stopped. The experience had shaken Ryuki, so she grabbed her things and left the Spirit Oasis. The negative temperatures were not gentle, so Ryuki had decided to find shelter and stay the night in the Northern Water Tribe. She would continue her travels in the morning. Following her time in the Northern Water Tribe, she travelled to the Earth Kingdom’s capital, Ba Sing Se. She had never been before, so she had stayed a couple days there as she toured around Ba Sing Se’s three great walls. After travelling around the Earth Kingdom for a couple days, she decided it was time to return home to the Fire Nation and settle down. Ryuki took a couple days to wind down from her long trip, but knew she would soon need to find a job. Ryuki applied to be a low-level Miner in the Earthen Works Division, a smaller branch of the Domestic Civilians. As a Miner, she was given tasks to complete, and would get paid a small amount each week. After two weeks of completing tasks, she would be promoted to a Prospector. During this time, Ryuki had visited an island that the Fire Nation had been working to build houses on called Ankoshima. She loved the island, and had quickly become bored of New Arsen. Not because it wasn’t a beautiful island itself, but because she had never stayed in one place for too long, and felt like it was time to move on. Not long after she started her Miner job, Crescent Sage applications opened up. For most of Ryuki’s life, she had dreamed about the day she’d be accepted as a Crescent Sage. She had spent her childhood listening to stories from her mother about spirits, about the Avatar, and about how big of a role the Crescent Sages played in keeping spiritual balance within the Fire Nation. Ryuki applied, hoping the Mahatma and the rest of the Crescent Sages would give her a chance. To Ryuki’s surprise and delight, she had been accepted into the Crescent Sages as an Initiate Sage. Initiate Sages did not do much, but Ryuki needed to wait two weeks before she was allowed to take the test to be promoted to a Pundit. After she was promoted, she had started working on some fun stuff! In the Crescents, the Pundits and Savants are required to write in their own Tabi, given to them at the time of them becoming a Pundit. Ryuki was able to journal everything, from her daily activities, to her progress with fire bending, even her own thoughts and opinions on the world. She found that the Tabi helped her to get everything out of her head, whether it be good or bad. Ryuki would even bring her Tabi with her on her adventures and travels. She would find places to sit and meditate, and now she would use that time to journal too. As a Pundit, Ryuki was also given what the Crescent Sages call a “Psuedoflame”. It’s an item that would represent the inner flame of a Crescent Sage, and as you continue your journey, you are tasked with making sure that flame does not die out before your time to rest. During Ryuki’s time as a Pundit, she had worked on and accomplished many things. First off, she had still been in the Earthen Works Division, and applications had opened up for Division Heads. She decided to test her luck and apply for the Head Prospector of her division. After a couple days of waiting for results, it was announced Ryuki would now be the Head Prospector of the Earthen Works Division. She was overwhelmed with joy, and looked forward to working with the Citizen Representative and Fire Lord Liv. Ryuki also helped some of the Crescent Sages’ Savants finish decorating the Crescent Sage HQ, and she had worked very hard to give them a good first impression of her. She had also been assigned to Chishiki Temple in Purenzu, a temple where history, information, and relics of many different nations are kept. This is also where she would be bringing her Tabi every week to be checked, and she would often spend time on the balcony of the temple overlooking Purenzu while she wrote in her Tabi. Below the temple was where they kept their relics. She had visited the room only a few times, but when she did she had noticed that Mahatma Quali’s and the four Savants’ Psuedoflames were on display as well. Ryuki had a hope that maybe one day, hers might be up there too. Not long after Ryuki had become a Pundit, tensions had been growing between the Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation. Fire Lord Liv’s coronation should have been a beautiful day, welcoming the nation’s new leader and looking to a bright future. Unfortunately, the day took a turn for the worst, becoming one of the darkest days in Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom history. As Earth King Belan approached the stage to welcome the new Fire Lord, he was tragically shot down by an unknown individual. Ayato, Belan’s brother, immediately takes the throne. Now Earth King Ayato, he began to blame the Fire Nation for the death of his brother. Raid after raid, both the Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation had been taking hits, and lives were lost. Earth King Ayato had officially declared war on the Fire Nation. Many battles had taken place in forts across the two nations, and it almost had seemed like the Fire Nation was going to take the loss. Months went by as the two nations raided and battled each other, until one fateful day at Fort Qam within the Earth Kingdom’s vast and dangerous desert. Earth King Ayato had joined his soldiers in a battle against the Fire Nation’s General Kano and his men. The battle between both militaries led to a duel between Earth King Ayato and General Kano, where General Kano had defeated the Earth King. Ayato had fought selflessly to the very end, and was brought down by Kano. After a coup within the military following Ayato’s death, Kano denounced Fire Lord Liv. Liv accepted, admitting her wrongs and the role of Fire Lord was passed to Kano. General Run, now Earth King Run, took over after Ayato passed. The war between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom had come to an end with new leaders in power. Republic City had announced it’s reopening after the attacks from the Red Lotus some time ago. Ryuki had never been there, and decided to take a couple days to travel to the United Republic of Nations to see Republic City. There had been so much she had never seen before! She loved the city so much, but she didn’t want to leave her home in the Fire Nation. Ryuki found an apartment building with cheap rent, and decided to claim a room! Before she went home she spent the next few days building up and decorating her apartment. She had set up some basic things, and lots of extra storage. When she was done she headed back home, where she had agreed to join Savant Hash in a fire bending performance in Purenzu for a Water Tribe and Fire Nation event! Some Fire Nation and Water Tribe citizens were there, some High Ranking Officials, and even Avatar Tamiko was there. Everyone who attended seemed to absolutely enjoy the performance! For the following weeks, Ryuki kept up her duties as a Pundit and now the Head Prospector of the Earthen Works Branch in the Domestic Civilians. During the war, there had been a major issue. Mahatma Quali had been taken by some angry spirit, and was trapped in the Spirit World. Some Crescent Sages, Citizens, and other brave souls traveled to the Spirit World confident in their ability to rescue the Mahatma. They searched for her while being very careful they did not anger any spirits themselves. After a while of searching, they found her. Unfortunately, it was not easy to rescue her as they had been bombarded with spirits attacking them from all angles. Along with the other benders, Ryuki fought them off as hard as she could, and even though Ryuki had never been great at fire bending, the adrenaline rushing through her gave her the strength and confidence to fight the dark spirits off. Everyone who came to help in the rescue succeeded, and Mahatma Quali was brought home safe with little to no injuries. After the war when everything started to settle down again, Quali had asked the Crescent Sages about an exchange program between the United Republic of Nation’s Ministry of Culture branch and the Crescent Sage branch. Quali asked her sages to apply, and she would pick who she thought was most qualified. Ryuki applied, wanting to know as much as she could about other nations. Quali had ended up choosing Ryuki for it! Ryuki had spent a week in her apartment in Republic City doing work and learning about the Ministry of Culture. She also took the chance to explore more of the United Republic, as she had never thought to see what the cities within the nation had to offer. Minister Miska had given Ryuki her tasks, report assignments, and even a desk in their building! She worked as hard as she could learning and writing, and when the week was over she couldn’t believe where it had gone. Ryuki returned home to Ankoshima and continued her work in the Fire Nation. A couple days went by after Ryuki had returned home, and she decided that she wanted a fresh start in a new home - she never stays in one place for too long. She moved to a small island in the northern part of the Fire Nation, Nokroibi. There had not been many people living on the island, and Ryuki felt she needed to be somewhere far from the bigger cities considering what had been going on for months. Ryuki chose a small apartment in one of the buildings, and she lives there now enjoying waking up to a quiet beach everyday. Around the same time of her move to Nokoribi, the city of Caldera held a festival for Avatar Szeto. The entire city was beautifully decorated, and Ryuki got to make a couple extra bucks by setting up her own food stand. Fire Lord Kano’s coronation was also coming up, and many people had been nervous as to how this would go. Fire Lord Liv’s coronation ended with a deceased Earth King, and many people of the Fire Nation had not been too excited with Kano’s rise to the throne. The day of the coronation, moments before the event was set to begin, Mahatma Quali issued a message to the Fire Lord. She stated that she and several other High Ranking Officials, including all Savants of the Crescent Sages, were not happy with Kano as Fire Lord and demanded he step down and hand the position to Grand Sage Leafy. Kano and many other Nation Leaders did not agree, as he had not been Fire Lord for long and had not done anything wrong. Kano did not accept Quali’s message, and demanded that the strikers step down from their positions and leave. Before Quali left the Fire Nation for good, she promoted Ryuki to Mahatma. When Ryuki originally joined the Crescent Sages, her goal was to work towards her own personal spiritual connection, and at the same time help bring spiritual balance to her nation. She had spent almost 3 years as a Pundit, and everyday working with the Crescents was like a dream to her. She had always been a spiritual person, even noticing changes in the energy around her. Ryuki was surprised and overwhelmed with Quali’s choice, but Ryuki had never been happier in her entire life. She promised Quali she would do amazing things with the branch, and as the Mahatma of the Fire Nation. After Ryuki was promoted, she had gotten an insanely warm welcome from all of the Fire Nation HRO’s, and had told them how excited she was to be working with them. Ryuki’s first couple acts as Mahatma were promotions and assigning new Pundits to temples. While she was a Pundit, there had been a location for a fourth Crescent temple in Nokoribi, but it had not been built yet. Ryuki had taken it upon herself to build the temple on her home island! She worked for a couple weeks, gathering resources and the money to get what she needed to build it. The temple is purposed for meditating, so Ryuki built a small lounge area on the bottom floor, a second floor with a bed, desk, and storage space for anyone who may pass through and stay the night, a third floor as a meditation room, and a fourth floor with an altar. Ryuki even added a small tea shop in the basement for anyone visiting the temple! Within the first couple weeks of her new rank, she put together an event inviting the Crescent Sages and the HRO’s of the Fire Nation. A meditation circle where they had sat around a fire in a temple within the Purenzu Refugee Camp. They all had taken some time to silently meditate, and they had also all brought offerings that they threw into the fire. Ryuki had planned this as an attempt to strengthen their connections with the spirits. It went so well, and everyone who attended had a great time. Although - something had happened to Ryuki during her meditation. The same whispers she had heard very prominently within the Spirit Oasis in the Northern Water Tribe she had begun to hear again, but this time not as loud and they didn’t continue for as long as they had before. She had only heard them quickly, and she didn’t want to alarm anyone, so she had kept it to herself. Ryuki hadn’t heard these whispers in years, and she wondered why it had returned now. Unfortunately as her work load was growing day by day, she did not have the time to ask the questions and do the research on what she has been hearing. Ryuki had also contacted Duchess Wei Wei about a similar exchange program to what she had done in the United Republic. She wanted to send a Pundit to the Earth Kingdom’s Clergy and the Crescents would take in an individual of Wei Wei’s choice. Ryuki had chosen Pundit Void to travel to the Earth Kingdom, and Wei Wei had chosen Sand Chief Akane to join the Crescent Sages for a week. Ryuki had given Akane some assignments to complete over the week, and Void took care of his tasks within the Clergy. After the week had ended, Akane and Void returned to their homes in their respective nations. Not long after that, nation leaders across the world had announced their very special Avatar Day festivals! Each nation would be celebrating a different Avatar, and the Fire Nation had chosen Avatar Roku. For the Fire Nation’s Avatar Day, Ryuki had Pundits Phrog and Rai along with Fire Sage Drag perform an insane fire bending performance that blew everyone away. There had been some small mini games, and a market area for food. Everyone who came had a wonderful time, and the Avatar Day’s being held across the world all went smoothly. Recently, Ryuki had put together a tour of Hajimari Temple in New Kasen. Citizens of the Fire Nation were welcome to come walk through the temple, led by Pundit Kenji. They also had that chance to write in questions, suggestions, or ask for advice. The tour went very well and Ryuki would like to plan tours like that for the rest of the temples in the future. As of right now, Ryuki is hard at work with the Crescent Sage branch, and working towards keeping spiritual balance within the Fire Nation. Because of Quali’s strike, the branch was left almost empty and needed to be rebuilt and reworked. Right now the branch has no Savants, but Ryuki sees so much potential within the current Pundits. Unfortunately, because of the recent war and a crippling strike, Ryuki feels as if there is nothing spiritual in the Fire Nation, not anymore. The Fire Nation has prioritized physical progress for years now, but there has been little mention on how the Fire Nation will rebuild it’s spiritual side. Ryuki will do what she can, but she cannot do it alone.
