He dresses formally and is never caught looking unpleasant. He always stands gracefully yet is always self-conscious of how he looks and will stop to fix his clothing or hair many times throughout the day.
Life
As a descendant of Avatar Kurruk, the Yuela family has always been respected amongst the Water Tribe. Their opinions have always been valued, but after Kurruks death the family's interest in tribal affairs faded along with their name. Once Naokai had been born he was always reminded of the importance of his family. Not only are they important to each other but they were quite important to Tribe itself. Naokai was ambitious and clever during his youth. He was driven by power and superiority up until he began dabbling in the affairs of the Northern Water Tribe. His family was wary of what would become of him if he were to involve himself in the tribal matters.
This began his connection to Noey the Northern Elder at the time. He would always go out of his way to help her and looked up to her as a person and leader. Naokai always went out of his way to help Noey with whatever she was working on. He helped keep Agna Q’ela clean with his water bending by shifting snow around. Being around her helped him realize that the tribe was a family as a whole and being driven by greed and power is not the way to keep an efficient and happy chiefdom.
Helping Noey helped him realize that he wanted to use his talents for good and started attending healing classes at healing huts near the Palace of the Northern Water Tribe. He also wanted to use his water bending to protect others by creating shields of ice, water, and snow. This thinking helped him later in the future as people began to notice his mediation and willingness to protect others and his tribe.
Naokai enrolled in the fisherman’s guild in the Water Tribe. Although, he was a lazy worker and never participated in much. He would donate his findings from time to time but was never really interested in the activities presented. After the fisherman’s guild wasn’t satisfying him enough to put his focus into it he decided to change his career path. He stayed in the guild but he applied for the military and soon after being accepted was able to prove he was a well-trained water bender. Based on raw talent Naokai had a lot of potential and enrolled in the Bootcamp. He quickly passed all the tests that were thrown at him with ease.
During this time the world was in turmoil and Harbor city had been attacked by Fire Nation soldiers. Based on history Naokai had been scared that the Fire Nation could’ve been attempting another world conquest and due to this, he joined the war efforts after the Fire Nation refused to apologize and punish those who attacked our lands. Naokai was drafted off to Fort Hiru to help push back the Fire Nation and even though he was very young he was able to help in the backlines of the ocean providing support to the chi-blockers by creating shields from the combustion benders and arrows thrown. His natural ability to blood bend allowed him to take off a person from the wall of Fort Hiru and put them into the ocean. The bender thrown off the wall was a water bender and they quickly made it back to the shore and Naokai had gotten greedy to take them down but was too late and once he chased him on shore he was vulnerable and gravely injured and taken away with the wounded.
After the victory of the Tribe, he was disappointed that he couldn’t have helped more. Feeling as if he let everyone down after greed took over him he vowed to never allow it to happen again. It had taken him a few months to recover from his injuries and he immediately got back to training once he was cleared to do so.
At the battle of Tatuq Naokai once again assumed the position of protector and healer. Each time a chi blocker came to him he would heal or tend to their wounds so they could go back. Many times would he leave his position to go out and shield the chi blockers from incoming fire. Naokai was so selfless he gave away his armor to the chi blockers of Nahaut and the Water Tribe.
Irelia was the next figure that Naokai looked up to in his life. He was so prideful when it came to the Xan family. They always inspired him with their leadership and unity amongst the tribe. He fought alongside him in war and spoke to him often while away in the Earth Kingdom. Loyalty began with the Chiefdom of Irelia where his undying love for the people would never fade.
He was presented with a job in the Earth Kingdom as an ambassador for the Water Tribe. If he were to take on this job he would be no longer active in the war and sent to the Earth Kingdom which was currently at war with the Water Tribe. With no one potential people taking the job Naokai decided he would sacrifice himself for the people and to keep healthy relations with the Earth Kingdom. After arriving in Ba Sing Se he requested an audience with Earth King Run who gave him a home in Hessenu to avoid the embassy being used.
The war ended with a treaty created by the Fire Nation after losing heavily and the Earth Kingdom was not fond of the tribes yet but the Ambassador presented an idea that we create a peace ritual held at the Northern Water Tribe performance stage near the Palace in Agna Q’ela. The event was successful and we vowed to never attack each other again and trade negotiations and relations began soon after.
Naokai was efficient and loved working with the Earth Kingdom but always felt discriminated against due to his origins and therefore changed his perspective on other people. He wondered why the government didn’t treat him as well as they used to when Earth King Run stepped down but he could only assume old grudges were held onto by not only the population but those in power. The only people Naokai liked during these times were the noble families who had family relations with the Water Tribe. Because of this aspect, they were more accepting of him and didn’t mind that he was from a nation they were at war with.
After Run had stepped down the kingdom was in disarray. Warlords came from the shadows and attempted to seize power for themselves being unhappy with new administrations taking over. It was known that many of the warlords didn’t like the Water Tribe and this could only mean more aggression towards him and therefore he took refuge in his home and didn’t go out often. King Hong wasn’t interested in mending the broken bond between the two nations, therefore, causing Naokai to have a lot of free time to himself.
Naokai views King Hong as a manipulator and deceiver. After the letter addressing the United Republic of Nations Hong had united the Earth Kingdom on a conquest to take land and kill helpless citizens. Naokai went to the current Chief Loffae if we were to go to war and help the United Republic. In response, he was told to stay neutral in the matters yet conflict inside of himself told him to go help and he even contemplated leaving the Water Tribe to go help their war effort.
He eventually calmed himself down and thought logically, understanding that it wasn’t his place to mend a war that didn’t involve his nation. Soon after the fall of Republic City, a rogue group of Earth Kingdom citizens attacked Harbour City in the Southern Tribe.
The group went by the name Task Force X and once again Naokai’s feel for safety in the Earth Kingdom was in jeopardy. The attacks continued many times over and the need to escape for him was dire but luckily for him, he was given an offer to become Advisor to the Northern Water Tribe. Naokai had taken into consideration what that would mean but his Diplomat Siyo was definitely ready to take over his position and he felt comfortable that she would do an amazing job in his place.
Task Force X was not actively investigated nor cared for in the Earth Kingdom bringing suspicion that the Earth King was involved with this rogue group. He wanted to stay and figure things out but his homeland needed him more than he thought and he left the Earth Kingdom back home to become the new Advisor of the Northern Water Tribe. His family was very unhappy with his recent promotion and warned him many years ago before arriving in Hessenu that it would only bring his downfall. Naokai took this behavior from his family as them being unloyal to the chiefdom and cut them off.
Once arrived home he created his journal log:
It's been quite a long time since I was stationed in Ba Sing Se to uphold the peace between our two nations, but it seems as though I haven't accomplished enough. It's as if it was only yesterday that I was appointed Ambassador to the Earth Kingdom, yet so much has happened within that time period. I'm honored to return to the Northern Water Tribe, not only as a citizen but as Elder Elektra's newly appointed Advisor. My love for the tribe has never faltered and I still believe that accepting the offer for this position was the best opportunity I could have taken in my entire life. There was a time I had feared not only for my own life in the Earth Kingdom but for the Water Tribe's as well. I thought I couldn't uphold my duties as the Ambassador and the direct consequences were the two nations drifting apart. Since Earth King Hong began his reign, I've never felt more unsafe with the malicious acts in the Southern Water Tribe. Nothing is being done in the Earth Kingdom to find the ones responsible as well, making it feel like it was conducted by the government themselves. Yet once again I'm home safe surrounded by my brothers and sisters of my tribe, free of the worries that had once dawned and lingered over me. Although most of my time in the Earth Kingdom was full of fear, I suppose a few things came out of it. For instance, I grew my skills as a negotiator and mediator. I had also met a tall, thin suitor who I can only hope I’m worthy of as he is a Xiong, one of the mightiest noble families in the Earth Kingdom. He had dark green eyes that pierced straight through me at first glance. I long to see him again and with the current banishment, the head of his house currently resides in the North. Maybe I can take my chance at a husband whilst I gaze from afar. As a child, I always dreamed of serving the Tribes in the highest honor and I can finally say that I’ve reached a dream that I had thought was so far from my grasp. When I was recruited I was lustful of power, but I hadn’t realized how much responsibility came with this power I’ve obtained. The immaturity of my old self wouldn’t survive the position I’ve been put in. My past self would not understand that the Tribe isn’t just a nation under one banner but rather a family who has taken care of one another. I can finally understand that the decisions I make are no longer just for my comfort. I must tend to all the needs of the Tribe and do what must be done to become the greatest yet. The tides push us out into the ocean to flourish only to pull us back and show the tribe what we have become.
- Northern Advisor Naokai
He had met a short-lived love interest but duty called and it wasn’t time for him to find a lover. Northern Elder Elektra had given him a list of things to do and he always listened and completed her requests. It was only natural for him to do so. He began helping with the construction of Fort Ila.
Soon after returning home he applied and was offered the job of Farming Atanerk. He was fond of the people in the guild and grew very attached to them all. They held a special place in his heart even though they didn’t have much attachment; the whole Tribe relied on the farmers for food and Naokai relied on them. Their value would never be diminished in the eyes of Naokai.
He always stayed in touch with his guild speaking to every member and making it an active hub for everyone. He felt as if his members were happy and started reconstruction on the Torngasak Farms.
His time in his Advisor Era was short-lived and very soon after Elektra had promoted him to Advisor she began her retirement pushing Naokai to take on and assume the position of Northern Elder. In order to become Northern Elder, he would have to step down as Farmer Atanerk to pay attention to the needs and values of the tribe and preserve the North as he knew it. He devoted all his time to the North and plans to make sure it is thriving before he leaves and chooses a new leader to continue the greatness he plans to bring.
Naokai was able to relax more and create his own schedule and because of this, he created more time for himself. He found a lover named Tulok and soon got married to him. Tulok was interesting to him; he brought something new and something fun to the table. He was always there for Naokai and his decision-making, but he wasn’t the only one Naokai came to for advice and confirmation on his job.
The Olanna family were respected individuals. Naokai always looked up to Noey and always came to her for advice. Noey is often found with Maaven Kota and Head-Architect Sefina. Naokai was always wary of his decisions and doubted his ability to stand his ground when it came to the North or decision-making to new constructions or even deconstructions.
Sefina and Noey helped Naokai realize what he needed to do. The advice provided for him was carefully thought out and always had backup plans if it hadn’t worked out at first. Without Sefina and Noey he would be helpless and unconfident in his position. Now that he is more comfortable in his newly brought up position he is looking for new opportunities not only for him but for a new advisor that will be picked at his hand.
