Character

Personality

Bre is a very caring person who likes to try and see the best in others. However, she is very protective of those she loves and will not hesitate to do what is right in any situation.

She is a hard worker and puts a lot of pride into what she does and tends to dedicate herself to her work (sometimes a bit too much). While she isn’t the best at bending, Bre is able to hold her own in a fight with various other weapons, such as swords, axes, or bows, though she prefers to avoid bloodshed whenever possible.

Clothing

When she’s not in her police uniform, Bre is usually wearing the more modern style of clothing that is popular in the URN, usually opting for her go to green off-the-shoulder top and shorts.

Life

Bre is the child of an unknown mother and Renshu Lin. She was the second born, with her sister, Elektra, being the eldest. When she was a child, Bre always took pride in the fact that she was the only of Renshu’s children to inherit his earthbending and would often joke to her siblings that it made her the favorite. Though, even with her bending as a source of pride, Bre was never able to really get too much of a handle over it. She learned the basics, but she could never get down the more complex moves, and often preferred fighting with weapons in addition to her bending.

She had a relatively uneventful childhood, growing up in the United Republic her whole life. She was briefly exposed to the political world through her father’s time as President, but she had never really paid it any mind in her younger years. Bre always looked up to her father and he was part of the reason she decided to pursue a political career in her adult life, though her long-time friend, Akara, also had a part in it by recommending Bre for a council appointment and always encouraging her to push for what she believes in.

URNPD (307 A.G. to Present)

Bre moved into her own house in New Yu Dao when she was 16 and decided to join the police force. Throughout the years, she worked her way up the ranks, eventually becoming Deputy Chief under Dustan Xiang at age 18. While in the police force, Bre dealt with a variety of issues, ranging from damaged properties to dealing with rogues attacking citizens, or providing security at the World Leader Summit Dinner. Bre received her position as Deputy Chief due to her help with the ever present crime and eagerness to help out wherever. The United Republic Police Department was left in a rough state following the civil war and Chief Dustan wanted to ensure he had a capable deputy, choosing Bre because of her determination and genuine desire to keep the United Republic safe, despite her young age. Not long after, there was an increase in crime and bison kidnappings. Bre was always fascinated with the air bison as a child and she was devastated to hear about the recent kidnappings. She begged Dustan to let her lead the police in aiding the Bison Task Force and helped to track down the shipments and warehouse of the criminals who were taking the bison. With the help of the task force, they were able to locate and free (most of) the bison back to their respective owners.

It was through her position as deputy chief under Dustan that caused her to grow so close to him, and the Xiang family, eventually leading to her retaining the deputy chief position when Dustan’s eldest, Miezaru, became police chief.

Political Career (308 A.G. to 315 A.G.)

Bre was appointed to the United Republic Council following the appointment of Haruki to Vice President under President Quali. She finished out the remaining two weeks of the term and was delighted to be elected back for a full term with Akara and Cole under President Haruki. Towards the end of the council term, President Dustan was elected, with Akara as his vice, leading to Bre succeeding Akara as Chairwoman of the council. She ran for another council term and was elected again for a second, and eventually a third, council term. During her time in council, Bre, with the help of her fellow councilmembers, was able to accomplish a lot of things, like approving the renovation of New Yu Dao, helping create and establish an architect team and a cultural branch for citizens, creating a foreign ministry and expanding the foregin affairs branch of the United Republic of Nations, rewriting the constitution to provide clearer rights and powers for the citizens and those in government positions. Bre loves advocating for those in her nation and working to ensure their ideas are represented while also ensuring the nation is able to run smoothly. She even had a brief stint as Interim Vice President while Dustan and Akara were recovering from an illness they picked up while traveling.

This third council term was cut a bit short, though, when Bre was elected as Vice President with Akara as President after an intense round of campaigning. The celebrations were short lived, as the two near immediately inherited a war with the recently ceded nation of Nahuat. The two were eventually faced with the hard decision of continuing the war, or trying to come to a peace agreement and end the war sooner, after months of fighting. With some advice and discussion from the United Republic council, General Aries, Foreign Minister Samari, and military high ranking officials, eventually they came to the decision to sign a peace treaty. After further discussion with the Nahuati high ranking officials, the Treaty of Fort Knytte was signed, solidifying a peaceful end to the war in exchange for a chunk of land in the Northern United Republic and shared access to the United Republic iron mines.

During her term as Vice President, Bre worked to help Akara push her ideas forward and provide new and exciting opportunities for citizens. Akara and Bre were able to introduce more business to Republic City following the recent reopening of it after the destruction caused many years ago. They have worked to ensure the city flourishes and enjoy planning fun events within the city, whether it be a picnic in Korra Park or a celebration of The United Republic’s relations with another nation. She helped with more constitutional edits, restructuring the judicial system, and refining many more branches within the nation.

Towards the end of their term, Akara and Bre were hit with a hard decision. Conflicting was brewing between the Fire Nation and the Water Tribe over the actions of a Fire Nation citizen, and both sides had come to the duo asking for aid should the conflict turn south. After much consideration and deliberation with General Markai, Foreign Minister Samari, and the council, the decision was ultimately made to aid Kano and Run, with the hope for an alliance in the future should the conflict turn to war. Nervous about entering into a conflict so close to the end of their term, the duo made this hard decision, thinking it would be the best for the future of the nation and help the next president have a leg up and pave the road to future alliances. Ultimately, the conflict escalated and the Water Tribe declared war, with Nahuat acting as their allies. Earth Kingdom announced their support of the Fire Nation, soon followed by Team Avatar, urging Irelia and Kodalaq to consider the spiritual outcome of such a war. Akara announced the United Republic’s support of the Fire Nation following this, joined by the Foggy Swamp Tribe later, turning the conflict into a world war.

Amidst all this conflict, presidential elections were in full swing. Bre and her running mate, former councilman Miska, were hard at work campaigning, as well as preparing for battles and working towards preparing the nation for the transition in power. The day election results were announced came, and unfortunately, Bre and Miska did not win the election, having been beaten by Lauren and Miezaru. Saddened but hopeful for the future, Bre addressed the citizens for a final time as Vice President and stepped into the position of Chief of Police, following Miezaru’s recent ascent to Vice President.

RCPD (310 A.G. to Present)

Bre takes great pride in her work within the URNPD and was ecstatic when she was asked to help organize and run the Republic City Police Department upon rumors of the city’s rebuild finishing soon. Bre put her all into the management of the Republic City Police Department along with Police Chief Miezaru and greatly enjoys the ability to work with her fellow United Republic citizens as well as those from the other nations.

Shortly following the creation of the new police force, muggings began affecting those of all nations. The Republic City Police Department took this issue to heart and has been working to gather information regarding these muggings and the Triad responsible for them. The group has managed to intercept plans for attacks on the United Republic of Nations from these criminals and even successfully stopped an attempted bombing of New Yu Dao. However, in their most recent encounter with the Triad, Police Chief Miezaru was kidnapped and taken hostage. Bre was beside herself with worry the entire time. Torn between trying to calm the forces and organize a plan of action, or rushing head first into the situation to ensure the safe return of the chief ASAP.

While following a lead on the whereabouts of Miezaru, Bre and her fellow officers were led to a gruesome sight at the home of her eldest sister, Elektra. The windows were shattered and the room was a disaster. In the midst of it all, a small box containing a note and the severed hand of Miezaru. Bre spent many long nights trying to gather any and all information she could regarding the kidnapping of her police chief and her sister, all while trying to keep tabs on her remaining friends and family members, ensuring they didn’t turn up missing as well. Many sleepless nights passed, with Bre being forced to lead the United Republic Police as well as the Republic City Police Department in Miezaru’s absence. Bre felt an overwhelming sense of guilt at every promotion and event that came and passed while Miezaru was missing, she couldn’t stop herself from thinking that he should be here for these things, not her. The guilt was especially hard to handle when she was asked to utilize the Republic City Police Department as security for the official opening ceremony of Republic City in celebration of those who helped rebuild the city from the wreckage left by the Red Lotus. Bre was to stand at the back of the stage, acting as Nation Leader security detail, a job that should have been left to her superior. She found she couldn’t look President Dustan in the eye during the event, unable to ignore the sadness in them that his son was missing from such an important event. Unable to shove down the feeling that he blamed her and was disappointed.

Eventually, RCPD caught a lead and followed the trail of clues and ciphered messages to the cell Miezaru was being held in. Bre was ecstatic to see her police chief and friend once again, in mostly fine condition. She felt a bit sick when she saw his missing hand, remembering the scene that was left in Elektra’s house with the hand sitting in the middle of it all. After talking with Miezaru a bit, Bre found out that her sister, Elektra, had managed to escape the prison cell, but was unable to bring Miezaru with, as he was still healing from getting his hand cut off, and wouldn’t be able to make the escape.

After a few more months of back and forth, interrogating Triad members they managed to arrest, following leads on a cargo chase of jennamite, and an intense court battle with GedCo, the RCPD was able to find the evidence they needed to prove GedCo was just a front for the Triad. Armed with this evidence, Police Chief Miezaru and Bre confidently went into the court case meant to indict the Black Market as the Triad and presented their evidence. GedCo, caught off guard, desperately tried to dispute this evidence, but the jury ultimately sided with RCPD and found GedCo guilty of working with the Triad. Following this conviction, the Triad blinded the audience and made a run for the Republic City streets in a last ditch effort to get away with no punishments. RCPD rushed to capture the fleeing Triad members, and in the crossfire, managed to kill the Triad leader, Kiayare. With their leader down for the count, the Triad dissolved. The police celebrated a somber victory as they worried after their injured chief, who had taken an intense blow to the chest from a GedCo hammer.

Following the excitement of the Triad, the next few months passed quietly by. The police kept themselves busy with patrols and organizing trainings with the United Forces. Presidential elections came and passed within the United Republic, and Chief Miezaru was elected as Vice President, with Lauren as the President. Miezaru passed the title of Chief of Police down to Bre as she left the position in government. A bit nervous for the future that lies ahead, Bre gratefully accepted the position, and soon after chose former Captain, Kohaku, as her Deputy.

Bre found herself more nervous about taking up the position of Chief than she had in her first few days as Vice President. She laughed about this to Akara, saying how strange it was that a position in charge of less should fill her with more anxiety than the one she previously had. Her long-time friend gave her a small smile and explained that Bre was likely nervous she wouldn’t live up to the expectations set by her predecessors, that she was worried about letting down the branch she loved so dearly. Bre thought over Akara’s words for a moment, and gave a small nod. She admitted that she did feel a bit wary about following in the footsteps of the previous Chiefs she had worked closely with and respected greatly. Akara assured Bre that she would do wonderfully in the position, and that her many years spent as Deputy had more than prepared her for success in her new position.

Personal Life

Through her years of living and working in New Yu Dao, Bre was able to open up more and has found a great group of friends who work to support her goals and keep her company. Currently, Bre is kept busy balancing her police duties, working as a councilwoman, running an auction house with Pantu and Cole, heading the New Yu Dao Decoration Committee, and working to better her bending abilities with Dustan.

The Xiangs

Through her work in the police under both Dustan and his son, Miezaru, Bre grew very close to the Xiang family, seeing them as an extension of her own family. She looked up to Dustan as another father figure and viewed Miezaru and Kalsang as her siblings. As such, when Kalsang had decided to run away from home, Bre did not hesitate to offer him a place on her couch, allowing him to stay for as long as he needed. She communicated to Dustan and Miezaru that Kalsang was safe, though she didn’t specify where, exactly, he was, knowing that Kalsang would prefer they didn’t know at the time.

However, the next day Bre awoke to a heart-crushing scene, Kalsang had left in the middle of the night. Bre was devastated and quickly contacted Dustan and Miezaru, becoming increasingly worried when they said they hadn’t seen him, either. She told Dustan that Kalsang had been with her and suddenly turned up missing and he sent a search party after Kalsang. When Kalsang was eventually found in an Earth Kingdom desert, Bre breathed a huge sigh of relief, though she felt she had failed in protecting Kalsang.

Bre also grew very close to Miezaru’s child, Vara. Vara often sat at the police department with Miezaru when he worked late shifts, and Bre found joy in keeping them entertained. Bre would often find candy to give Vara, and would come up with games to play around the building with them. Even as Vara got older, Bre would find ways to make the extra hours at the precinct a little less unbearable for Vara, even if it meant putting off her own work for a bit. This is part of what earned Bre the title of “Precinct Mom” within the department.
