Satyr

Satyrs are beings of mischief, celebration, and hedonism. As such, they have garnered mixed reputations among the people they encounter. Some love their free-hearted spirits while some see them as nuisances that need to be quelled for their insubordination and disregard for common etiquette.

Born of the Wilds

Denizens of the Fey Wilds, satyrs come from a chaotic realm of survival and mystery. Though much to the surprise of many Scholars this harsh realm hosts many fey that are free-spirited, whimsical, and love a good prank. The satyrs are no exception being attracted to any celebrations, contests, and general debauchery they can get themselves into.

Magical Resilience

Due to the magical and chaotic nature of the satyrs, it is difficult to affect satyrs with magical effects and incantations. Even the most skilled of magic users have troubling times affect these fey with their reality-bending whims. Some say that it is because their existence itself is already a perversion of reality and being of the Fey Wilds, makes their nature a chaotic one.

Embracing Life

Satyrs are beings that believe that life should always be lived to its full potential and with all of the senses. They accept the good and the bad and are happy to experience all the facets and consequences thereof. They rarely take anything seriously and much to the frustration of the other races, it's often hard to get through to them with serious concerns.

Love of the Strange

No one quite knows why satyrs are the way they are, not even satyrs themselves. They just exist to live life to the fullest. They are unsure what truly drives them to act to their actions, but not many satyrs would have it any other way. Many seek the strange and unusual, embracing odd trinkets and curiosities that might seem distasteful or creepy to others. Many wear disturbing effigies and nick-names as accouterments on their outfits just to get a rise out of the people around them.

Flourishing Combatants

Though not all satyrs seek the thrill of battle, those that do embrace it for it's worth. In combat, their stances and maneuvers look almost like a dance, ducking and weaving passed blows using all weapons at their disposal, especially their hardened hooves and horns. Some will even learn special techniques that curl their horns around enemy weaponry, allowing them to disarm their opponents in combat.

Many satyr combat specialists will pick up fencing or became swashbucklers on sea-faring vessels. Some others prefer the gawking and praise of hundreds of spectators and enlist in colosseums and other arenas throughout Oryth.

Satyr Names

Satyrs have unique naming conventions, adopting names in the Sylvan tongue. Unlike many of the other races of Oryth, the name of a satyr isn't chosen until the satyr has reached passed kid and has fully come into their own person. When they are ready, they choose a name for themselves in their native tongue that usually reflects their personality or something that just simply sounds fun to say. Before choosing a name for themselves, the adults of the community will often call them by pet nicknames such as "young one, kid, my pet, little child, etc. Though in some societies this is seen as dismissive, in satyr culture, it is actually a sign of endearment, and many parents will continue to call them this far into their old age after many moons have passed on their child's life.
