After the royal family relocates from Camerford to Tiraven, the latter city is declared as the new capital of Yondar.
"If there is one thing the people of Ma'rune cannot dispute, it is that Yondar is undoubtably the heart of this world. No Kingdom has stood as tall and proud for as long as Yondar has. It's people endure, through harsh storms and hopeless wars, and when all is done they rebuild what was lost."
After the royal family relocates from Camerford to Tiraven, the latter city is declared as the new capital of Yondar.
A group of assassins sneak into Castle Tirav under the cover of darkness. They manage to slit the throat of Prince Edmund, the first born son of King Ignatz, before they are discovered and arrested by castle guards. The assassins were excuted, but the damage was already done. All of Yondar felt the weight of losing Prince Edmund.
King Ignatz of Yondar employs an elite group of fighters (who would eventually become known as the Shields of Yondar) to protect the throne.
A separatist faction in Yondar, known simply as 'the Stryken', rise up against the Yondar royal family and its allies. They seek to fight against the corruption and injustice that bleeds through Yondar. They believe that the only way to end the corruption is to remove the royal family from their ruling positions and allow the people to govern the kingdom. Protests started out peacefully in the early years, but as time went on the Stryken felt ignored. They became more violent, taking the fight directly to the royal family and its allies, determined to incite some form of action.
An attempt to assassinate Queen Raelle of Yondar and her family is foiled by the Shields of Yondar. All Stryken separatists involved in the act are tried and executed swiftly.
After the Stryken assassination attempt, Queen Raelle seeks out help from the Church of Van-Hael. They devise a way of weeding out corruption in the Shields of Yondar, preventing another possible assassination attempt coming from within the ranks of the Queen's most trusted knights.
After the untimely death of Garren Greymount, the royal advisors to Yondar's throne were left with a difficult decision to make. As crown prince, it was Ronan Greymount's right to take the throne. But Ronan was a young boy of 17 at the time. The advisors were afraid that his inexperience and youth would cause a great deal of trouble throughout the kingdom. They much preferred that Ronan's uncle, Anders Greymount, take the throne - at least until Ronan was a little older and wiser to the cruelty of the world. Anders ended up being the one to persuade the advisors that Ronan was ready to take on the responsibility of being king and leading the kingdom. It was a hard fought battle, but in the end the advisors gave in, for the longer they spent arguing, the longer Yondar spent without its king. Ronan became the youngest king to sit on Yondar's throne and would seek the advice of his uncle Anders for the first four years of his reign.
Though arranged by Ronan's uncle - Anders Greymount - and Elise's mother - Beatrix Callow - their marriage would prove to be a happy one. Beatrix approached Ronan's father in the first instance, shortly before his death, to seek his approval. Garren was happy to ablige - the Callows were a well known noble family after all - but his death put a temporary end to any plans the two of them had concocted. It wasn't until after Garren's funeral and Ronan's coronation that Beatrix would bring up the subject to the king himself. Ronan wasn't fussed. He was 17 years old and would have preferred to remain single for at least a few more years, but his uncle Anders eventually stepped in and negotiated the matter on his behalf. It didn't take much to get Ronan to agree - he was smitten with Elise after their first evening together. Their marriage was a large affair. The people of Yondar needed something to celebrate, the death of their previous king still fresh in their hearts. It was so great that Ronan and Elise took the time to travel around the kingdom for the first couple of months of their marriage, spreading their love and joy to the people.
Against the wishes of King Ronan, Jenna Avarice was promoted to Captain of the Shields of Yondar at the young age of 16. Ronan argued that Jenna was inexperienced and far too young to take such a position. His uncle, Anders Greymount, argued in favour of her promotion. He was quick to remind Ronan that he had been given the throne at 17 and reasoned that the former captain would not have chosen Jenna as his successor upon his death, had he not thought her capable of fulfilling her duty. There were whispers, of course. Was Lady Avarice promoted to captain because of her family's long standing history of becoming Shields of Yondar? Was there something more to her relationship with King Ronan, or was there a hidden relationship between her and Anders that led to her promotion? The whispers were swiftly dispelled, both by King Ronan and Jenna's mature handling of her promotion.
A wonderous event indeed. The much anticipated birth of the prince was a hot topic in Yondar from the moment King Ronan and Queen Elise announced the latter's pregnancy. Many speculated on whether the child would be a boy or a girl, or tried to guess when the child would be born, with some citizens making wagers with their friends and family. The birth was not a difficult one and both Queen Elise and the prince were healthy and happy. King Ronan took it upon himself to announce the birth to his people, addressing those who lived in Tiraven with a huge grin on his face. News spread quickly throughout the kingdom - and to the neighbouring kingdoms as well - and the people of Yondar spent many consecutive nights drinking and partying to celebrate the prince's brith.
Early in 1451 AL, rumours started to spread in the northern regions of Yondar. These rumours claimed many a things, but the common occurrence was the tales of a Valissan force camping in the mountains, preparing to strike Yondar. At first King Ronan thought nothing of these rumours, but when he heard them mention a treasured artifact of Van-Hael, he decided to take action. Ronan took a small strike force of his most trusted Shields - including his captain, Jenna Avarice. Together, the group made the trek through the mountain passes and into Valissa. In the end, the rumours turned out to be false. There was no army. There was no artifact. But Ronan did not want the trip to go to waste. They decided to try and gain the upperhand against their greatest enemies and gather more information about the Valissan army. Even this plan failed, for the locals were either tight lipped and not trusting of strangers, or they truly didn't know what their army had planned. The trip itself was not a complete waste though. Whilst travelling back through the southern regions of Valissa, they managed to capture the Whispered Daughter and escort her back to Tiraven's dungeons, hoping to gain information from her.
There was a great deal of mystery surrounding Alexandra's birth. Elise hid away in solitude for months, her only company being that of her usual servants and her husband. Even her son, the young Prince Percival, was kept away and looked after by Ronan instead. The people feared for their queen at the news. There were no wagers made, save for those behind closed doors where too much alcohol had been consumed. Instead, the people would express their deepest concerns. Was Elise ill? Were she and the child okay, or had the pregnancy caused unforeseen consequences. There was no wonder then, when the child was born and King Ronan announced to the people that his wife and daughter were alive and well, that the people of Yondar cheered with a renewed sense of exhilaration. They sang and danced and laughed with one another, delighted at the news and none the wiser about the true circumstances surrounding Princess Alexandra's birth.
A quiet affair in comparison to the birth of Princess Alexandra, but no less important. Lady Jenna Avarice and Lord Trent Avarice welcomed their daughter into the world in private. They were congratulated by their close friends and other noble families. When King Ronan himself came to congratulate them, they spent an evening joking with each other, and it did not take either family long to introduce their little ones to each other.
King Ronan, having spent a great many days with his newly born daughter, decided it was finally time to deal with his long time prisoner - the Whispered Daughter. Jenna Avarice tried to disuade him from taking any drastic actions and argued that escorting the Whispered Daughter back to Valissa would be the wisest option, but her efforts failed. She was too tired and stressed from her own recent pregnancy to truly argue with Ronan. He opted to execute the Whispered Daughter in secret. Though rumours would spread through Valissa that Yondar had taken action against one of their most prominent religious figures, they would be unable to prove anything. He granted the Whispered Daughter her last request - a private conversation with the Captain of the Shields of Yondar, one which would shake Jenna to her very core - before calling for his executioner.
At the start of the Festival of Summers End in 1467, no one in Tiraven, or even Yondar, expected the first day to end so tragically. The people went about their business, preparing for an evening of festivities, completely unaware of the plot about to unfold. In the early hours of the morning, Prince Percival began to enact the coup to overthrow his father and claim the throne. He helped Valissan soldiers enter the castle whilst disguised as soldiers from Yondar. Whilst King Ronan and Captain Avarice were busy discussing troubles brewing on Yondar's borders, Percival and the Valissan soldiers took systematically took out Ronan's most loyal men. By the time Captain Avarice noticed anything was amiss, it was already far too late. She warned her husband to allow him time to escape the castle with their daughter. She then made her way to an unsuspecting Ronan, Queen Elise, and Princess Alexandra. Together, the four of them reached one of the castles hidden tunnels, though Jenna could not pass through the tunnel with them. She knew that someone needed to stay behind and buy the other three time to escape. When the day was over, any Shield sworn to King Ronan was dead, and Percival had claimed the throne that he had desparately longed for.
Five days after overthrowing his father, Percival finally had what he wanted - the throne of Yondar. Only after he truly sure that the castle was cleared of any potential enemies did Percival set his sites on making his ascension to the throne official. His coronation was a very formal affair. A lot of citizens mourned their former king, all of them under the impression that he, Elise and Alexandra had all died during the coup. Some were openly happy, their support of Percival greater than that of Alexandra or Ronan, and celebrated well into the night of Percival's coronation. But no matter their opinion of the coup, one thing the citizens could agree on was that Percival's coronation marked a day of change. For better or for worse, that would soon be decided.
Months after King Percival claimed the throne, the Church of Van-Hael discovered that Percival had worked with the Valissans in order to achieve his goal. They cut all ties with him and, for the first time in centuries, Yondar's royalty had to reign without a religious power at their side. This meant little to the average citizen. But to King Percival, it meant everything. He was left without access to the Rite of Aegis. The only Shields of Yondar of Yondar he had were those sworn to him before the coup occurred.
