The dung-firing festival is a tradition started by the
Herders of Caldura and hails from Caldura, the central region of
Rengia.
The festival was originally for using
belgra poop for firing pottery using a reduction-firing technique to create unique finishes upon the glazes, but now this tradition tries to make use of as many of the famous
17 uses for belgra poop as it can!
It all started when one day a child got dragged along to attend and thought that from the name the festival would be about shooting dung cakes with pistols - she was so disappointed that she bawled her eyes out until a nearby guard came to quell the tears and told her to fling a dried disc of dung as high as she could. Being trained with her pistol, the guard shot it first try and it shattered in a poof of poop. After that, it stuck and has been there ever since - the shooting I mean.
Festival activities:
Belgra poop is used as fuel for kilns to cook baked goods during the event and other artisanal foods.
The kilns are constructed to resemble a strong animal, traditionally a dragon-like shape but more recently depicting creatures from The Rupture.
Many foreign folks admire this tradition and come to visit purely because of the event, it's food, and musical performances. They bring home pottery and glazed souvenirs to take with them, often in the shape of cute little belgras.
It's not known when the tradition began and likely has always been a part of Calduran culture.
Shooting has now become the main event and trophies are given out at the end of the day. Different challenges are issued and invented each year and new target shooting clubs have begun opening across the region and have fashionably spread overseas.
Many of the potters have shifted their trade to making clay pigeons for the event, which provide a much more satisfying sound when hit.
The idea is just splendid, the name alone caught my attention immediately xD I'd love to read it again when it's fully fleshed out ^^ Keep up the good work! :D
