10. Read diary
Grim settles down into the dusty chair beside the desk. He carefully opens the weathered diary, his fingers tracing the faded words on the yellowed pages.
As Grim reads on, he learns of Alema's decision to build the mansion. It was a refuge from the betrayal she had endured but also a haven, as every entry mentioned the love of her bees.
Growing up, she was very close to her father. Even as a 20-year-old, she was her father's girl. While her mother was busy with her work, her father always spent time with her.
She was shocked to learn that her father had been dating one of her acquaintances, Hannea. Her father wouldn't have told her if Hannea hadn't threatened him. If they didn't pay her money, she would come clean to his wife, Alema's mother, and the rest of the royals. Alema tried to talk Hannea out of it, but she only became more vengeful.
Alema, who was a conduit for their Deities, made a deal with one of their trickster deities. The trickster would take Hannea's soul now, and as payment, Alema would give her soul up to the trickers when she died in the future.
Grim grumbled. "Wilder." This was a name he had used as a curse word for many years by now.
With Hannea's disappearance, their lives returned to normal. Alema thought her father had learned his lesson—until she learned a couple of months later that her father had a young lover again. Alema could no longer deal with her father. She gathered all her assets and set about finding an architect to help her design her new home and a builder to build the home and everything else she needed. Then she left to live with friends.
Grim flipped to the end of the diary and scanned the last page. It took him a moment to find what he needed, but when he did, he put the diary back into the drawer and stood up. He walked over to the shelves full of jars and searched behind them.
It didn't take him long to find the hive tool. Unlike all the other tools in this building, it wasn't rusted.
"Hello, Alema. I'm sorry that Wilder hasn't been around to tend to you for this long. I'm here to take you to your new home."
The End.
