Monsters

I don't get it, why are they attacking us when we haven't done anything to them?
— A history student to another
It is not known how long the monsters have roamed the destroyed planet of Areu. They are not mentioned at all in the information stored on The Station so it is speculated that when the monsters arrived they killed all the Kaose on the planet and that is the reason why the planet was destroyed. But the people of The Station are missing as well so that can’t be the only reason.   Another prevalent speculation is that the monsters are a hive mind, as their movements are very coordinated for a species that don’t appear to even be sentient.

Protection

All monsters have what appears to be dark chitin-like exoskeletons that are both lightweight and durable. The exoskeleton is segmented, allowing for flexibility. In battle, their armor can deflect blows from conventional weapons and withstand extreme temperatures.   Beneath the exoskeleton lies a layer of regenerative tissue that can heal wounds at an accelerated rate. This tissue, rich in magical essence, not only repairs damage but also strengthens the surrounding area to prevent future injuries. Their regenerative abilities are so advanced that they can recover from injuries which would have been fatal for most other creatures.

Anatomy

Not much is known about the creatures other than their protections because their bodies turn to ash after death. This ash has been analysed several times but the only information gleaned has been that the monsters consists of magick.   What can be observed of the monsters is that there are 8 types of them. Out of these 8 types there are 3 of them that can fly.

No. 1

This is the strongest type of monster. Even though it’s the largest one and bipedal it has wings and can fly short distances. Like all of the other winged monsters their wings are flaps of skin stretched between the bones of the fingers and arm. Its anatomy is similar to that of other bipedal animals, though it does not have a face nor any genitals. They have a large mouth on their stomach area but no eyes.

No. 2

These are small, they reach the knees of an average length Dragons in their bipedal form. They run on six thin and spiked legs connected to an oblong torso without a head. These are as quick on the land as they are in the air. Like the previous type of monster they have large wings, but unlike the previous monster type these can fly long distances.

No. 3

This type of monster is amphibious, adapted to both land and water environments. It has a sleek, hydrodynamic body with webbed feet and fins along its limbs and back. Its exoskeleton is slightly translucent, reflecting its aquatic nature. The wings of this monster, smaller and more membrane-like, assist in swift underwater navigation and short glides above water surfaces.

No. 4

These monsters are burrowers, equipped with powerful, clawed forelimbs capable of digging through even the toughest substrates. Their exoskeleton is thicker and rougher, providing extra protection against the abrasive underground environment. Though wingless, their strong, muscular build allows for rapid movement through the earth.

No. 5

This type's exoskeleton is less physically robust, but they appear to have telekinetic powers. They appear to be bipedal. Their heads are slightly larger and have a protruded nose and large eyes. They also have anglers that glow.

No. 6

These monsters are closely associated with fire. They have a thick, fire-resistant exoskeleton that can withstand extreme heat. This monster can generate intense flames from specialized glands located along its spine and limbs, using them both defensively and offensively. Like most other monsters it stands on four legs, but this type of monsters have long tails with a hook at the end.

No. 7

This type of monster is large. They have for legs and large clawed paws. Like most of the monsters they don't have heads. This type have two torsos. One of them is connected to the four legs and the other torso has two arms. The torso with arms also has a large sharp toothed mouth.

No. 8

The last type is parasitic, small and often overlooked. These monsters attach themselves to larger creatures, including other monsters, and siphon off their life force. They have a lightweight, almost translucent exoskeleton, enabling them to evade detection.

Oo, I love all the different kinds of monsters. I wouldn't like to meet them in real life, but I love how much thought you've put into them. Mouth on the stomach :O
