Change Theory
Change Theory is a scientific hypothesis, developed during the Second Interstellar Period, that an unfathomably-advanced paleocivilization altered the properties of the universe (or at least the local portion of it) in order to make the creation of wormholes, and thus interstellar travel, far easier than otherwise.
Proponents point to some of the high-energy particle interactions used to create wormholes, and theorize the power behind the Change somehow introduced a new field to the cosmos which made wormhole genesis possible. They also bring up the Geometricians, who built massive jumpgates out of degenerate matter rather than use stargates, and the Probesmiths, who seemed content with their constructs schlepping around the galaxy at one-third lightspeed. Opponents argue wormhole formation is well-explained since the formulation of Ikoli-Prometheus geometrodynamics, and the invocation of reality-altering aliens is superfluous.
Debates have continued for centuries, and show no sign of stopping.
