The scientific study of existential risk, including types, causes, and prevention. A multidisciplinary field involving xenology, political science, engineering, and others, it of significant importance to modern civilizations since technology appears to become ever more destructive with each new advance, requiring the development of new strategies to prevent mass catastrophe.
One of the largest and most well-funded groups engaging in x-risk studies is the Existential Risks Directorate.
