Species of
uplifted gorillas.
Biology
While capable of bipedal locomotion, hanu usually walk on four limbs using the knuckles of their hands, in an upward-slanted pose as their arms are longer than their legs. Hanu upper-body strength, especially in males, is immense, capable of throwing adult
humans clear through the air. Sexual dimorphism is high, with a great difference in size between males and females.
Psychology
Given their close biological relationship with humans, hanu psychology is similar overall, though perhaps more tribalistic and patriarchal. Their organizations and family groups tend to be led by a single male who undergoes physiological and psychological changes as a result of holding a dominant position. Young hanu men have to prove themselves before getting married, usually through learning a valued skill, accumulating wealth, or making a great accomplishment in a field like soldiering or science.
History
Originally created as supersoldiers by the
American Federation, a
Second Interstellar Period great power, the hanu later got full civil rights and can be found in many Americanist colonies and settlements. Young hanu males seeking to make names for themselves (and so gain status in their home communities) can often be found as soldiers and workers in remote areas.
