International Police

The International Police is the primary international law enforcement organization of the Stellar Compact, with universal jurisdiction in all member states.
Established in 1 U.Y. as part of the Stellar Compact's founding, the intention behind it was to create something akin to an international police force with true binding power which give it the ability to enforce laws against recalcitrant or corrupt governments, following along with the Stellar Compact's overarching political philosophy of state sovereignty requiring limits in order for civilization to be safeguarded against catastrophe.
The International Police is essentially the civilian counterpart to the Star Patrol. The Patrol is tasked with nation-scale security issues, enforcing dispute resolutions, supporting peacekeeping operations, protecting from alien threats, while the I.P. works on non-state crime. With the Stellar Compact's constitution giving it the authority to operate in all member states, it often focuses on things like international crime, high-profile fugitives, and corruption within the law enforcement organizations of member states themselves.
Its activities commonly include extraditions (especially of fugitives being protected by corrupt authorities), intelligence-gathering against organized crime groups, and rendering assistance to states whose domestic law enforcement organizations are facing situations which they are ill-equipped to handle, or who need more training. It also undertakes some counterterrorism activities and helps to keep watch for violations of the Controlled Technologies Act, which sometimes brings it into contact with the Existential Risks Directorate. (There also exists formal cooperation structures between the two of these institutions.)   To conduct its operations, it commonly works with other organizations such as the Star Patrol (for transportation) or the XRD (when up against the worst of the worst crimes and threats to society). The I.P. can also put out notices to domestic law enforcement organizations to detain or question suspects. Persons arrested and remanded to trial on account of its work are tried by the Stellar Court (especially with high-profile cases like war crimes or large-scale corruption) or the local justice system of a member state.
