Mikoyan-Gurevich-Korshunov

Mikoyan-Gurevich-Korshunov, also commonly known as MiG-K, is an aerospace manufacturing company headquartered in the Arkhangelsk Republic on the planet Soyuz. In business since the tail end of the Interstellar Dark Ages, it is noted as a prominent builder of military craft, numerous examples of which can be seen in the hands of national defense forces and other military organizations throughout the Starweb.

History

MiG-K originated during the Interstellar Dark Ages as a state-run aerospace company making military equipment for its parent government and later the other nations of Soyuz who, when they weren't busy fighting each other, had to deal with offworld adversaries such as Spartan raiders and feral replicator fleets. After the Stellar Compact's foundation, it branched out and began selling to other member states.

Products

Since Soyuz experienced a level of technological regression during the Dark Ages, its original output instead emphasized ruggedness and maintainability over incorporating the latest advances, something which has persisted in its design philosophy into the modern day. MiG-K craft, while not as advanced as those constructed by other notable shipbuilders such as Cubic Barclay and Central Dynamics, are known for durability and being able to stand up to a lot of punishment before they break. They are also hard to hack, their computer systems being deliberately primitivized and limited in control. Overall design takes much inspiration from "old-school" Second Interstellar Period ships, eschewing reliance on modern innovations like neutron deflectors and repulsor paragravity.
Ships built by MiG-K tend towards the smaller side, from orbital shuttles, torpedoes, and unmanned drones up through frigate- and cruiser-sized warships. Only a few larger types, such as battleship or carrier-sized classes, have ever been built. Its market is primarily governmental and military, with civilian versions of its craft being more or less an afterthought and rarely produced direct from the factory.
The durability and ease of maintenance common to MiG-K ships, and the frequency of their availability on the used market, has given them the reputation of being the craft of choice for smaller frontier nations and non-governmental military contractors. No popular portrayal of a band of felin mercenaries or toren war lads would be complete without a well-worn MiG-K ship for them to fly.
