Matter Furnace

Matter-to-energy conversion technology developed by the ancient Hexamite civilizations.

Physics

Matter furnaces are reactors which liberate baryons as energy following Albert Einstein's famous equation E = mc². How they do this remains unknown, likely it is some new physics which modern civilizations have not yet discovered and hence they cannot be replicated. Functioning examples which survive in Hexamite space are usually guarded by various automatic defense systems.
Being conversion reactors, they can consume as fuel any matter that does not physically damage the device, ranging from e.g. water to interstellar hydrogen gas.

Utility

The ultimate power source, matter furnaces were used by Hexamites to generate energy for their cities, megastructures, and spacecraft.
