Aelfier ageing.
Aelfaune and all their subgroups for all intents and purposes are considered "immortal", taking their longevity from their Faye ancestry. However, despite the belief of the mortal world, the Aelfuane are not immortal, not anymore.
Their Immortality died with the creator god Folurne. However they do live for centuries, a mortal life to them is but a fleeting moment. But they will still age and wither. Just not within a mortals lifetime, their bodies will very slowly begin to decline over the millennias.
A number venerable Elves are rumoured to have survived even until this age. However there are only certain areas within Evalaw that this influences applies to. Lorthwyn, The Sunless Realms, northern wastes, the Dragon spire mountains and The Ebonwood are Areas surrounding L'eviante'quens. It is believed this s because they are areas of high magical power and influence from the gods of old.
This was never always the way of things, in the first age when the elves were young, they were Immortal, their bodies immune to the ravages of time. This was before Folurnes' demise. On his death, their sorrow for the makers death turned to fear. For when he died, so did their immortality. Thus desperation set in, and they began to search for answers, a solution, turning to the three remaining Elder gods; Shilina, Aulreth and Aushurie. To protect and guide them feeling the venerable torment of their new found mortality too much to bear. The Elves refer to this as the Fa'llah Rhin'dol.
How can you tell an elf's age?
Aside from outright asking them. A tell-tale sign of a elf's age is the length of their ears. Though elves don't noticably physically age in their way of looks when they reach adulthood, unless they are mutilate or exposed to abnormal or ethereal conditions. Their ears are the easiest way to tell. The longer the ears, the older the elf. Example, young juvenile elves have very short ears, they are not too dissimilar to Human ears, just pointed at the tips. The older an elf becomes get the further they are known to grow out, and become typically long and knife like as one would traditionally expect. Throughout most Elven societies older women have a tendency to hide the length of their ears to disguise their age. Head pieces and veils to hide them away. In some extreme cases some elven women will even have the very tips of their ears trimmed back.
