Ald'veloth Bastion
Vigilantly standing sentinel over the scourgelands and ensuring the great warding stones do not wain, stands the Bastion of Ald'veloth. Headquarters of the Blight Wardens and the bulwark against the spread of the Sea of Spores .This formidable fortress is seen as the cap put over the whole Menor'cress crisis, built into side of the cavern wall, guarding the main tunnel that leads toward the Caverns of Amaranth, with a well trains trained garrison of wardens on hand at all times. The bastion is one of a series of fortresses constructed to monitor and control the sea of spores. It's sturdy walls and series of immeasurably powerful warding crystals, completely cover the former approach to Menor'cress itself. The importance of the Bastion cannot be stressed, it's purpose is invaluable. Numerous guilds and underworld powers have invested vast sums of gold, time and resources into ensuring the bastion holds back the abominations the blight spawns from encroaching any further into the Sunless realms.
In total there are four fortresses that seal off the Caverns where the sea of spores resides from the rest of the underworld. Ald'veloth, is the perhaps greatest of these sealing strongholds and most well-known due to its position. Their original purpose was merely to act as waystations maintaining the warding crystals that ensure the forcefield did not fade. When the spore sea began sending fourth it's wretched husks and all manner of fungal abominations to attack the crystals and breach the forcefields perimeter, it's wardens had to respond in kind. Calling for aid, these way posts would be substantially bolstered over the centuries to respond to the emerging threat. Now, stand four prominent fortresses and over one hundred waystations to monitor the spores activities.
The bastion is an accursed place, but a necessary one. Without it, the blight would have surely consumed us all by now. Abyss mother be with those wretched souls doomed to our defence.
