Crucifer

You come to the aid of someone who needs it. You extend your spirit to shield them from imminent pain, bearing a cross on their behalf.

When a creature you can see has a successful attack roll made against them or is required to make a saving throw as part of a hostile spell, you can choose to intercede and act as the target in their place. You must activate this spell before any damage or saving throws are rolled. If a saving throw is required, make the roll yourself using your own modifiers.

The original target can choose to resist you by making a Constitution saving throw against your spellcasting DC. If they succeed, the spell fails.

If you are not contested or the target fails their saving throw, you receive the full effects of the attack or spell in their place. This leaves the original target entirely unharmed.

The transference is invisible to everyone except yourself and the original target. The attack or spell appears to connect with the original target as normal; you simply assume all the damage and effects.

If the result of this spell leaves you with 0 HP, the original target's next attack is automatically a critical hit.

At Higher Levels

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you can target one additional creature for each slot level above 1st. If this spell reduces you to 0 HP when targeting multiple creatures, choose one target to receive the critical hit benefit of this spell. All remaining targets attack with advantage on their next turn.
