Shorter and slighter in build than most other humans, Calishites have dusky brown skin, hair, and eyes. They’re found primarily in southwest Faerûn in the Lands of Intrigue. These humans make up the bulk of the population of the Border Kingdoms, the cities of the Lake of Steam, the Nelanther Isles, and Calimshan. They are also a major ethnic group in the nations of Amn and Tethyr.
History
Calishites are the descendants of the slaves of the genies who once ruled great empires south of the Marching Mountains. Their ancestors were not native to Faerûn, but came from another land. When the power of the genie emperors dwindled, the calishites freed themselves of their bonds and founded the nation of Coramshan in -6060 DR. Since this time, the Calishites have expanded and migrated to many different regions of Faerûn.
Culture
The pervading Calishite view is that they are the rightful rulers of all the land south and west of the Sea of Fallen Stars. Some among them have a tendency to see the northern cultures as being short-lived barbarians, barely worthy of notice. However, this view was not common enough to stop Calishite traders from doing business with the lands to the north.
