Ashmolean Museum

The oldest museum associated with a university, the Ashmolean has a rather eclectic collection of antiquities and art. The current keeper, David George Hogarth, is an archaeologist. In particular, he is a student of Arab history, a former director of the Arab Bureau of the British Government, and a close friend of T.E. Lawrence.   This background, as well as the fortuitous arrival of Henry Field as a student of Assyriology at Oxford has led the museum to partner with the Field Museum in the United States to excavate the ruins of the ancient city of Kish.
