Peter Jackson
Peter Jackson is an eminent lecturer on classical civilizations at Oxford University. Unlike the rest of the senior staff, he has no experience with field work, having spent his career decyphering cuneiform tablets. He seized the opportunity to travel with the Kish expedition when the person who originally was planning to accompany Stephen Langdon was injured in an automobile accident.
Jackson is amiable and highly knowledgeable about Mesopotamian culture, but his interest in (and therefore familiarity with) events is inversely related to their antiquity. Anything after the Parthian Empire is more or less a blur to him. If cornered, he will admit to some recognition of the recent unpleasantness, but if asked who the major participants were and what the outcome was, he will stare blankly into space and then shrug helplessly. Jackson is legendary for his ability to stretch his lectures to truly epic extremes. His only spoken language is English and he assumes that everyone will understand him if he simply speaks slowly and loudly.
