Hernando didn't always dream of becoming a guard in Hollowbury, in fact his real dream was to become a famous adventurer, however his dreams were cut short in the cold months of 697 when he was adventuring in the Kiadu Wilderness he was attacked by a bear, causing injury to his left arm, and making using his prized bow difficult. After his recovery Hernando joined the City Guards where he spends most of his time in the Botanical precinct working with prisoners, and occassionally chasing someone with his baton.

Shortly into his tenure as a gauard Hernando met his best friends George and Georgie, who were also working in the Botanical Precinct. The three guards quickly became known as the Three Hoa throughout the city. When they met Bob in 701 things just kinda clicked, and Bob joined their group very quickly, at least when their not working. There is a weekly game of Crooks and Scales every Maelyr where the four get together, generally with a couple of other people from the precinc.
