Cramese

Found primarily on the continent of Mithlond, Cramese is considered a relatively rare plant that only grows in wetland environments. Despite the growing constraints the plant has proven to be very useful in the daily life of the residents.

Once upon a time, there was a small village at the edge of the wetlands. The villagers were poor, but they were content and happy. One day a strange plant was found growing in the wetlands. It was taller then a child, with a stem the color of Inan's eyes, and long narrow leaves. Nothing had been seen like it before.

Curious as they were, the village investigated the strange plant. They named it Cramese. At first it was used around the homes as a symbol of luck and protection, until one day the wetlands warmed and the smell of freshly baked mint sweets perfumed the air. Soon the roots and flowers began to be used in foods, and teas, to help cleanse our homes, and call in the spirits of luck and protection to guide and help us.

Appearance and Origin

On average the Cramese plants grow around 5 feet tall. The stems and leaves have a light green coloration, giving way to pale brown roots. Each stem has at least one cluster of 13 flowers that can be headed to make way for another cluster.

The plant first gained popularity in the 5th century when local villagers began to seek out new ways to bring luck and protection into their lives. Common belief is that this exploration led the villagers to begin to experiment with uses of this and other plants from the wetlands.

Habitat

They are native to the wetlands of Mithlond, though have been succesfully grown in greenhouses across much of the rest of Milleadh. The plants are generally grown in shallow pots with other Cramese plants, so their roots can properly spread out.

Uses

There have been multiple uses of the plant discovered through the years. The most popular use is a tea brewed with the flowers of the plant. The tea is mildly sweet on it's own but when combined with a few drops of honey and a pinch of ground cinnamon and nutmeg, benefits of the tea are amplified. The tea is used primarily as a diuretic and to help with infections in the urinary tract.

By grinding the roots into a fine powder, and then mixing the powder with distilled water and a small amount of high quality alcohol, alchemists are able to create a greater healing potion that also helps to boost the immune system and helps to reduce inflammation.

Cultural Impact

Through out Mithlonde, the plants are used to help bring luck and protection into a building. Individuals who are setting out on adventure or to participate in a war, may be smudged with bundles of Cramese, or may take some dried Cramese with them. Brides have been known to include the flowers in their floral crowns as a simple way to bring luck into their marriage and their new families.

Thank you. It was an interesting angle that I hadn’t considered, but it felt fitting for this plant in particular.
