Asiil
An Asiil is a beautiful yet dangerous flower that grows in the deserts of Kathaya and Grozav, and all across the continent of Matka. The petals of the flower are black with red speckles across them. While its thorns are a brilliant red. It is theorized that the thorns are a bright red to draw in insects to die and fertilize the plant. Or to cut animals and humanoids so the blood may fertilize the soil around the plant. The thorns are used for venomous potions while the petals and stems are often turned into potent oils said to divine the “true nature” of certain entities.
According to local folklore there was once a woman who watered the Asiil. She began to worry her lover was not true to her. The Asiil gave the woman it’s petals so the woman could see the nature of her lover. The lover was not true. So the woman came back to the plant. She asked what she should do about her unfaithful lover. The plant gave her it’s thorns so the lover would never bother her again. When the woman came back to thank the plant, she accidentally splattered the lover’s blood upon the petals. To this day all of the flowers carry the blood drops as a warning to unfaithful lovers.
It is not uncommon to find these flowers sent to or left on the doorway of cheating lovers. When sent to others the flowers are considered a threat. It is thought if the flowers are bought for oneself they can help the owner hold a grudge or take revenge.
