During the wedding of Ejiiri and Hodari, assassins wearing the garb of Miliim soldiers killed Ejiiri and many members of the Nakomori imperial family. Emperor Otagi successfully escaped and vowed vengeance against King Murtay, despite the king's insistence that he had not orchestrated the assassination. Otagi fled with the aid of his personal mage while his royal guard covered the retreat.

In the heart of Makaliim, the Iridian Altar was chosen as the site for the wedding between Ejiiri and Hodari. Ejiiri and her family traveled to Makaliim with an entourage of Zukein royal guards and knights. The wedding was set to take place on the 24th day of Orlin, in the year 197 only a few months after the betrothal. On that day, however, during the wedding, Ejiiri was murdered by a crossbow bolt, as were numerous members of the Zukein royal guard and royal family. The attack was abrupt, and was conducted my individuals wearing Miliim guard armor. Emperor Otagi Nakomori sounded a retreat for his guards and had his personal mage teleport him to safety while the retreat continued, but not before vowing to avenge his daughter's death. The King of Miliim, Murtay Mhiina, swore that he had not planned to assassination and would never have betrayed the trust of Zukei, especially for such an important union. Prince Hodari was utterly devastated, having grown quite fond of Ejiiri during the brief time they had been together.
