The first Rage of Dragons

Using powerful magic, the elves drove all dragons violently insane.

In an attempt to break dragon rule over the lands, the elves built the Dracorage mythal and tied it to the appearance of the King-Killer Star (a comet that shines red in the sky when close to Toril). While the star was visible, all dragons went insane and attacked anything around them, including their own allies and offspring. The violence was immense and anyone who didn't know how to hide suffered greatly.
