Eastern Deck

The Eastern deck is a type of Playing Card deck in common use in Yethera, especially to the east of the Wall of the World (Great Shield).   The deck contains fifty-four cards, divided into four suits of thirteen and two 'wild' cards. Each suit has numbered cards from 1 to 10 and three court cards. The 1 often features a more elaborate design.   This pattern was developed and spread by the Halflings of Moraea, influenced by the Orcish Darochi and gained worldwide distribution thanks to its adoption by the Featherfolk. It is not uncommon for the Eastern deck to be refered to as the wind deck and its genesis attributed to the featherfolk.   The original halfling deck uses the suits wains/wheels, staves, baskets and blades. The court cards are the Runner, the (Wagon) Master and the (Law) Speaker, the one is called the Ace, and the wild cards are named the Elder and the Child.   Outside of Moraea, it is more common to find decks using the featherfolk suits - winds, feathers, packs and talons - with each suit containing a Merchant, a Prince and a Herald, with the one called the Master and the wild cards the Fool and the Sage.
