Foundation Deck

The Foundation deck is the most common format for Playing Cards in Caino.
These decks have fifty-six cards divided into four suits, named for the planar elements. Northern decks rank the suits, highest to lowest, earth, water, air, fire, while southern decks use the order fire, air, water, earth, probably due to the influence of the dominant genasi factions in the Elysian Federation and the Empire of the Southern Sun respectively. This division is a common cause of fights in competitive games where suit order is important.
Each suit has ten cards numbered one-to-ten, and four court cards, most commonly named the herald, the magistrate, the priest and the knight. Some decks also number the court cards eleven-to-fourteen, but most assign them a letter instead. As in the Eastern Deck, the one has an elaborate design and is sometimes designated the Master.
Some Foundation decks also include a suit of trumps, either fourteen (based on the Daroka's high suit) or twenty-two (based on the manifold deck.)
