The stars which appear in the skies above
Aiaos are lights burning beyond the
Web of Fate, in some cases beyond the Worldskin, bright enough to be seen in the material realms. The precise depth of any given star within the Outer and Far Realms is, save in a few specific instances, a matter of pure speculation based on brightness, hue and tradition. Likewise, any claim as to the definite nature of any given star is largely speculative.
The fixed stars are so-called because their relationships in the sky above the dome of Aiaos remain constant, although the entire arrangement of stars turns slowly through a 237-year sidereal precession (a shift of approximately 1.5 degrees per year.) There is some division among scholars as to whether and which of them are the light of celestial beings in
The Firmament, caught in the Web of Fate, lonely stable points in the
Void, or some form of beacon set in place by the
Gods. Aiaosian astrology sees them as signifiers of the ancient and long-damaged divine plan for their creation.
The arrangements of the stars form certain widely recognised
Constellations.
The transient stars are those that move, relative to the pattern of fixed stars, throughout the year. Many scholars believe that the transients are those stars that burn somewhere beyond the Worldskin. Some of the transients are visible year-round, while others only shine in the sky in certain seasons. This second subcategory includes the nine so-called
Evil Stars.
