This article outlines the criteria a reviewer or editor should use to assess article for publication in the Akadimía setting.

 

Page Metadata

Article Title

Page Title (H1) is appropriate and consistent with purpose.  

Article Intent

Purpose of the article can be expressed in clear, unoffensive language. Intent is indicated in Scrapbook.  

Page Title

The PAGE TITLE (SEO METADATA) (Design -> SEO) accurate and relevant to Article Text. This should be consistent with the article title.   Less than 75 characters.  

Page Description

The PAGE DESCRIPTION (SEO METADATA) (Design -> SEO) is set, and largely matches Article Introduction text. May be used for featured snippets or search results on some search engines. Usually matches or close to introduction. Less than 160 characters.  

Article URL Slug

The Article URL Slug (Navigation -> Basic Navigation) is set, appropriate to page, no special characters, and unique.  

Article POV

Article POV is clear, tagged and consistent with text. Valid tags are:
character-pov
author-pov
creator-pov
gm-pov
  If character-pov is used, which character should also be tagged.  

Article Theme

Article has been tagged with appropriate themes.

Article follows the inverted pyramid:
  1. Most interesting hook
  2. Important details
  3. Other general background information
  4. Secondary CTAs
  Note, if the CTA is a high value outcome, it should use a primary CTA as well at the top of the page.   Entry points, such as bullet points, sub heads, pull quotes and images break up heavy content.

Article Text Characteristics

  • Use 'searchable' headlines
  • Short, easy to scan paragraphs
  • Put what the reader needs to know first
  • Break up content with entry points
  • Adhere to recommended word counts
  • Accessible
 

Accessibility Characteristics

  • Article can be read by screen reader.
  • Semantic markup structurally sound. All elements properly closed, header nesting is appropriate. (e.g. no h2 followed by H2). Remember, WA down-levels all H# BBCode markup.
  • Images have descriptive alt text rendered correctly in HTML
  • Videos have transcripts and captions
  • Link text should be descriptive
  • Avoid jargon.
  • Be careful with con-lang words and phrases
  • Proper text contrast
 

Article Headings Characteristics

Semantic markup is not used inappropriately for formatting. Content uses appropriate semantic elements (headers, containers, etc.) CSS is used to render formatting.

Article introduction begins with the most important peice of information. For most articles, the hook and article purpose must be present in in Article Introduction.

Article introduction is in Page hot-spots. This is the top left (for English content) on desktop devices, and remains at the top for responsive layouts.  

Article Purpose

CTAs on page further intent specified in article purpose. No "bait and switch" CTAs.

Article is in the correct location in IA.

Article is clear where article sits in IA

Any External Links have been tagged with external icon.

SEO Guideline Summary

  • Accessible to bots & crawlers. Limited to no repeated content, as "canonical" tags aren't available.
  • Metadata completed as outlined
  • Responsive layout, with breakpoints and appropriate text/element scaling
  • Aware of search key words & phrases appropriate to text, documented in scrapbook
  • Has clear entry points: (Social -> Evolutionary -> Foundational)
    • Foundational Content: IA, Horizontal Nav, CTAs, Evolutionary Content
