8: Meet Merikh

General Summary

Emerging from the hillside, our party discovers a town broken and in mourning. When the curse lifted, the townspeople began to remember all the loved ones and friends they had forgotten about while under the hags spells. Now, nearly everyone in town is realizing their loss.   Enio is grateful for the curse being lifted, and seals up the entrance to the strange teleporter for now. K9 was successful in negotiating future studies on the strange magic, at a later time.   Kaimana retrieved her veil of disguize which she had comissioned upon their arrival in town several days ago.   Back at the inn, I'mon decided the best course of action would be for the town to evacuate and head to The White City for refuge and reinforcements. While the hag threat had been removed, the Kobold threat was still completely unaccounted for. Given recent events, staying and risking a fight was unwise.   Also present in the inn was a messenger from The White City, looking for Markus Spats. He cautioned the young heir to return to the city quickly to reclaim the inherited estate. However, upon further scrutiny, the party revealed this messenger for who he really was, Merikh under an illusion!   Before them stood another metal man, identical to K9, without the marks of Mystra and the wear and tear of battle. Immediately they attacked, dealing impressive damage in the first round. however, Merikh had not come to fight and instead expressed his amusement for how capable these adventurers had turned out to be. He pleaded with them to abandon their quest, and embrace the chaos. Having endured the constant struggle of good vs evil, fighting Mystra over and over had shown the futility of continuing to fight. Instead, he reasoned that all things must eventually end in a return to the void, and the party should embrace the life they have been given. In the end, their victory would prove as pointless as simply doing nothing. All ends in the void sooner or later.   The party was unconvinced, and Merikh left disapointed and warned them that he would interfere if they continued their quest for Mystra (CAMPAIGN PLOT: Collect the Shards of the Chronosphere). His "presence" then left the body of the metal man with few parting words, "enjoy the gifts." His presence left, but his body and belongings, namely 4 magic weapons, remained.   Before heading out of town themselves, our party retrieved a promisary note from I'mon for the ship they were promised for saving the town. He also handed them a letter which had come while they were away - A Letter from Argyle Burrows.
