Till It's Over

There once was a story about a boy who became immortal via reincarnation, only to save his kingdom.
— Saber?
Till It's Over is a controversial myth, with many claiming it not to be true. It is infact very true. This is because it is a story that takes place before the destruction of the planet Cynder where the government then hid the existence of magic.   All cases of magic shown in this story are cases of Ancient Magic being used.

Summary

It's been five centuries since the Husks took over. We had lived in peace, the kingdom full of life and bustling with activity. We were on the track to becoming a kingdom that would go down in history as one of the greatest kingdoms. Then it all happened so quickly... and no one had any time to stop them; not like they had the strength to stop those horrific monsters, anyway. One starry night while everyone was sleeping, a small meteorite crashed to the ground in the center of the kingdom's capital. When everyone woke up, everything was different.   When the townsfolk opened their doors in the morning, they were met with a world being drained of color and life. The once green and beautiful land was now dark and dying. Mixed in with the groups of horrified onlookers were these dark husks wandering around what used to be their friends, their family, and their pets.   At first, the husks were like zombies drawn to natural life, slumping around to all of the plants. All of the flora slowly drained of color whenever these creatures laid their touch onto them. But it quickly became evident that they were evolving, adapting to the bodies they took over the more they drained from their surroundings. Then my ancestors realized that the selections of bodies they took weren't random; the creatures weren't just a mystery plague caused from a space rock that was infecting people at random. They were a brilliant invasive parasitic species.   They stole the bodies of our royalty, our fighters, and other important citizens. The army of monsters kept growing until they didn't need to take our people anymore and then their bodies began to change and evolve. They became even faster, deadlier, some gained extra appendages, and their leader even grew in size.   Try as my ancestors might, they weren't able to drive these creatures away as they were no match against the creatures, and soon they became slaves to the monsters. They forced all of the remaining townsfolk into slavery, and forced them to become farmers and servants to fulfill their every desire. If anyone tried to fight against their rule, they were punished severely in many different ways, including mental and physical torture. After a while, most people gave up trying to fight for their freedom and gave into their new life of suffering. Though while everything seemed grim there was a small light that shown through this darkness; a small group of people had decided that they wouldn't give into these monsters no matter how bad things got. They called themselves the Insurgence.   The Insurgence barely stood a chance against the monsters, and the remaining one hundred eventually fled from the remains of the kingdom. They knew that eventually the monsters would start on a conquest and begin to acquire land outside of the kingdoms barriers, and knew that if they were found; they'd perish quickly. In fear of the monsters finding them, they began to search for a secretive place to set up camp. It took them days of travelling, but they eventually came across a seemingly safe cave system for them to inhabit.   After a few months, they had set up the camp and had fallen into a daily routine. It was becoming a small civilization, with many of the people having different jobs and a hierarchy began to form. The leader and founder, Aaron Silverwood, was at the top, and he had a council of leaders under his rule. Under that rung in the society, there was a small military and police force. The rest of the people were civilians who were on the bottom of the hierarchy, having a number of different jobs.   One day, there was a village meeting called to discuss the monsters. Everyone knew that their escape was only temporary, and that they could only hide for so long. Within time, the monsters would have found them; and they had to be ready. With their forces, they could only hold them off—they wouldn't be able to defeat them. Even though they weren't strong enough, they wanted to be able to retake the kingdom and vanquish the monsters once and for all. It wasn't just the leaders that had this opinion, every single member of the Insurgence held this exact feeling. It's why they put their lives on the line in the first place. That's when Aaron said that they were going to create a weapon that would one day be the saviour of the kingdom. He asked for a volunteer to undergo a ritual of reincarnation. Whoever underwent this procedure, would be reborn as a baby in their bloodline whenever they died, until that bloodline faded away. They would retain all of their memories of their past lives, and continuously learn until they were strong enough to be able to slaughter every single one of the monsters.     I was the one that underwent that procedure. I've lived through eleven past lifetimes, reborn by the Insurgence to be forged into a weapon and to be the saviour of the kingdom. I was nurtured and trained for centuries in the Insurgence, slowly gaining new abilities. I've mastered the sword, hand-to-hand combat, and many forms of magic abilities. Every single one of my past lives have been used to train and defend against the monsters attacks until I was ready for the final battle that would win us this war.   Life continued on for years, and I once again found myself defending us from the monsters. They kept sending more and more soldiers and we kept our ground. The monsters were so focused on wanting revenge for the Insurgence escaping and the life of luxury, that they had fallen into, so they didn't attack other kingdoms like the late Aaron had predicted. But those victories only lasted so long, as after centuries, the king of the monsters had become fed up and decided to face us himself. He was a horrific beast that broke through our barriers and began to wreak havoc on our home. Before they took over, I was instructed to flee and that this life would be my last if I didn't prepare myself and vanquish the monsters once and for all. I acknowledged the order and I escaped the cavern, only to find myself back at the cavern a month later after finding out that the monster king had never left.     A long narrow bridge outstretched into the cavern ahead, being the only thing between me and the void of darkness below. This was going to be the only chance I had to allow the people I care about to escape from these monsters' continued reign of terror and to avenge the innocents that they've took. There's no way I could allow myself to lose here. I was born for this.   As I sped across to the lone island in the middle of the void, bursts of wind began to emit from the cavern below. When I stepped off of the bridge, the vortex of wind swallowed it up, blocking my path back out of the cavern. The village I knew was gone, and it was replaced by a ground of dark glowing crystals and cocoons suspended from the ceiling. There was nothing I could do besides push forward; and push forward I did.   Within the following moments, a bright flash blinded me. The light stung like the heat of a thousand suns. When I was able to open my eyes, the ground in front of me began opening up and dozens of the shadowy humanoid monsters began climbing their way up.   I drew my greatsword and rushed towards the creatures, with fury in my eyes and conviction in my voice as I yelled, "You're not going to take any more lives! I can't lose to any of you—no—I'm not going to lose to any of you!"   The monsters in animal-like forms began to surround me in numbers, trying to claw at my skin. I did my best to push them back and slice at them with my sword. One by one, they slowly fell. But for every one I killed, two more crawled out from the depths. They began to growl in unison, "You're just a single human, there's no way you can hold off long enough to end us all. Give up, we've already won."   "Never! I'm something more than any of you! I'm not stopping till it's over!" I yelled as I activated a spell around me. An explosion boomed to life, disintegrating a ring of monsters around me as blazing red armor formed around my body. When they neared me, they began to feel the heat from my armor and backed away slowly before they charged towards me at full speed. Hundreds of corpses lying in pools of blood were piling up all around me as I continued on.   Soon, there were groups of armed monsters surrounding me, with swords out and extra appendages like spiked tails at the ready to strike. But there was something off about these ones. They had fear in their eyes and they were shaking. They tried to speak, but they couldn't say a word.   "I'm sorry," I said solemnly, remembering that their bodies used to be members of our kingdom. Maybe their human forms made them both human and monster, but that couldn't excuse what they've done. I couldn't spare them, not with what's at stake. I shook my head, and then began to cast more spells.   I sent twenty of them flying off into the wind-wall to the left with a powerful gust, causing their bodies to spin out of control rapidly into the depths of the void. A group of them tried to rush me, trembling with every step. I flicked my wrist, causing them to disintegrate into a fiery explosion. I continued casting more and more spells; lightning, more fire, strong wind, increased force behind my sword strikes and punches. With every spell I used, the more fear I could see in their eyes until there were none of them left. All of them were dead and scattered around the cavern.   Without missing a beat, the one I was waiting for appeared. From the depths of the hole in the floor crawled the monster king, sealing the crevice he came from on his way out. "I am the King of the Husks. You and your puny race will not last, mortal. You will pay for what you've done. Once I'm done with you, the Insurgents I captured will become my new army—and then I will take on the rest of the world," boomed the enormous creature from his non-existent mouth. He looked like a human shaped figure with eight spider-like limbs protruding from his back. There laid two glowing white eyes on his head and a giant eye on his chest that alternated between every color and there was a strong dark aura radiating around him. In his hands, he held a giant black scythe that glinted from the dim light of the crystals.   "No. You won't," I said, meekly. I was trembling slightly, having never felt this kind of overwhelming fear before. The being in front of me was truly horrifying, something that would only last. He was nothing like the ones I had just laid to rest.   What sounded like a laugh boomed around the cavern, and he leaned slightly towards me in what could have been amusement. "What did you just say to me? Did I hear you right? I won't beat you?"   "I said... no! You won't kill me, or anyone else! I'm not just any mere mortal, I'm Saber, the living weapon! I was reborn twelve times just for the sole purpose of becoming strong enough to beat you... I'm not only a weapon for myself, or for the Insurgence, or for the human race! I'm a weapon for all living beings, no matter the kind! This is not the end for any of us, because I'm a weapon till it's over!" As I yelled a strong aura began surrounding me. Blueish-silver wings sprouted from my back. The fear from earlier was gone, and a sense of determination washed over me.   The King of the Husks took a step back, surprised. He then began to strike at me with his scythe. While I parried it with my sword, one of his spider limbs caught me off guard and struck me in the side. I winced and was shot backwards from the force, the heat from my armor not phasing him at all. I rushed him with an attack of my blade, and we continued back and forth between a flurry of strikes, of blade and limbs. His attacks began to overwhelm me, and he began pushing me further and farther back towards the wall of wind.   I had to take care of his threatening limbs, then I could take him on head-on. Using my wings to blast forward, I zipped past one of his spider limbs to the left of his head, and sliced downwards while using a spell to increase the force behind my attack. He grunted in pain as I quickly sliced one of the many limbs off, falling to the floor in a thud. One down, seven to go.   "How dare you!" screeched the beast, outraged.   He began to turn to attack me, but I sent a flurry of lightning bolts and blades of energy to slice down the the remaining limbs on the left side of his back.   This only angered him more, making him more and more irrational. He dropped his scythe to the floor with a clang. The sound of the scythe hitting the floor threw me off of my rhythm and before I had time to react, he turned and punched downwards, slamming his fist into me. The massive force from the punch sent my body flying into the ground like a meteor, creating a crater in the floor. All I felt was pain all over my body. He shot his remaining spider limbs towards me as I was lying helpless on the ground. I struggled to move, but my body was like a ragdoll.   My aura began to swirl and glow brighter. I began to have vivid memories of all of my past lives. All of my training coming back to me. I saw all of the people that cared about me, and all of the people that depended on me. I saw my loved ones, and knew that I had to get back up and fight for their sake. I remembered horrific events of the monsters causing so much pain and strife, and how I couldn't let them win this. This wasn't going to be the end.   The aura was now healing me, making me stronger, and protecting me. I cast an explosion spell which started to disintegrate his remaining limbs that were trying to hold me down. He stumbled back in shock.   "Why?! How?! You can't win you're jus—" he was yelling, as I flew myself full speed towards the now exposed eye in his chest, my sword now glowing blue with power. The sword pierced through the eye and we went flying through his body like a bullet as grey mist extruded from the eye as he began fading away. The fight with him blew away most of the corpses that were littering the ground, so I landed on a clear spot on the floor as the mist dispersed. The aura faded away and I collapsed on the floor, tired from my endeavor. I was finally done.     I did it. I killed the King of the Husks and the remaining citizens of the kingdom escaped from the horrors of the monsters that had been plaguing them for centuries. My task as the weapon and hero of the kingdom and world, is complete. It's finally over.
