The Final battle and unofficial end to the
The Northern Conflict. The Northern army was marching fast towards
Ridgemot, not knowing of the horror of the
Ridgemot Massacre. The Southern army had started to abandon the town as the King was preparing to leave in shame for what he had done, the attack came...
The Conflict
Prelude
After The King has massacred over two and a half thousand Northerners in the halls of Ridgemot his armies were distraught, they had been part of an atrocity the world would never forget. Some abandoned the cause, leaving only 2 thousand soldiers left holding the town. The garrison at Alcove had left the town and returned home, after Northern warriors struck in the night and sent them running. The King had ordered those loyal to him to dump the bodies in the river, with the fast currents washing many of them out to sea. He desperately tried to rationalise his actions but he was growing more and more unstable with each day. His advisers still with him convinced him to leave the town, return South, knowing the North likely would not have the Strength to continue a campaign south. The King told the army to leave the town, but as the army was starting to empty out of the town, the Northerners, who had been waiting for them, decided to strike...
The Northern warriors had arrived earlier that day and scouts had sent back word that small groups had been leaving for a while, but the King was likely still there, and the prisoners. The warriors waited for a long time, ready for some fighting, when they finally saw the Kings banner leaving the town they charged out from their cover...
The King ordered the men to return to the town but the army split, with a lot of soldiers choosing to flee. The battle became split in two, with the Northern warriors chasing down retreating soldiers in the river, and the rest pushing into the town to find the King and their Jarl...
The warriors charged the army, cutting it two, the gates of the town couldn't hold back the Northerners and the town became a bloody battlefield, the king retreated to the fortified town hall, but the warriors fought their way to him, finally breaking the doors down. They ran in and saw the piles of bodies, waiting to be dumped in the river. They dragged the King out into the street and demanded to now what he had done. The King looked defeated, finally realising his situation. He asked to stand, and told them he ordered the execution of the prisoners, including their Jarl, who's body he had dumped in the river. One of the warriors couldn't hold his anger and knocked the King to the ground, beating him senseless, finally the others pulled him off the King, and a senior soldier stood over
Tiberius and brought his axe down onto his chest, killing the King, fulfilling the promise made by
Hanlin Ewart.
The fighting in the river was brutal, with the southerners begging the Northern fighters to have mercy, the warriors were taking them prisoner at first but they noticed the bodies in the river, men they recognised, Northern soldiers and civilians. The warriors, in their anger started to cut down the southerners. And their bodies joined those of the Northerners.
Tiberius' infant son Hinterius to become king.
Historical Significance
Songs and paintings were made about the tragedy of the Northerners deaths and the Kings final moments.
