Chao-Drol

Chaos Beasts

(Chthonic)—These are ill-formed abominations left over from when the world was half-formed. Chaos Beasts appear as some standard animal or humanoid, but as a huge, black, indistinct, distorted version thereof. They are inestimably wicked, moody, and solitary, and said to be born of smoke and darkness. They are immortal, difficult to damage or kill, as cunning as humans, and powerful spell users. Most of the time, they sleep in the deep places underground, quiescent, but they are ravenous and without mercy when roused. Parties will encounter 1-3 chaos beasts roaming the area. The local population often will gather to hunt these beasts down before they can too much death and destruction.

Cloud Steed

(Elemental)—This is a horse from the clouds meant to bear wizards, kings or heroes. They are sort of cloud quasi-elemental, and they can race at great speeds overland, or even over snow or water, and they can fly. If manifested in a long-term form, they have even been bread with mortal horses. Such hybrids make for outstanding mounts, but lack flight and weightless running traits.

Cynocephalus

(Civilized) (Humanoid)—Sometimes confused with werewolves, cynocephalus are 6’ tall humanoids with wolf-like legs, feet, tails and heads, lightly furred and colored much as are wolves. They speak the local human tongue, plus wolf language. Cynocephalus are fully sentient, can read, can intermingle with human culture well, and some of them have even adopted the Faith. These quasi-canines dress like humans, their clothing altered to accommodate their unique body shape. They are quite strong and agile by human standards, and their canine noses make them excellent trackers.

Cynocephalus

(Feral) (Humanoid)—Similar in all ways to civilized cynocephalus, and able to interbreed with them, these can lope on four legs with wolf-like rapidity. Some may speak broken versions of the local human language, but most simply rely on wolf language. If they opt to wear clothing, it usually is crude leathers, and while perfectly capable of fighting tooth and claw, they sometimes wield spears, clubs and daggers, but no missile weapons. They don’t subscribe to human religion, or mix with human culture, and barely acknowledge civilized cynocephalus.

Demigods

(Divine)—Offspring of a god and a mortal is a demigod. They are exceptional in all ways, and sometimes move on to full divinity after dying. If a demigod and a mortal have a child, the issue is a classic hero, and exceptional being much like a demigod, but closer to mortal.

Demon

(Demon)—See Appendices for Demons

Dhampyre

(Undead)—A vampire/human hybrid. Most vampires are sterile, but some are able to father offspring with human women. Dhampyre often possesses extended lifespans and a measure of night vision. They age at normal rates from birth to adulthood, and then thereafter begin aging at a one-tenth rate.

Drac/Dragonette

(Dragon)—This is a miniature heraldic dragon, but about the size of a medium-sized dog. They cannot speak, and have no spell-casting ability, but they are carnivorous mountain dwellers.

Dragon-Hybrid

(Dragon)—This is a creature with dragon ancestry. The dragon likely assumed human form during the coupling, but the dragon traits still ring true. These hybrids usually have fire resistance and venom immunity. There have been rare examples of dragon horses, dragon wolves and dragon demons mentioned throughout history, but human/dragon mixes are the most common.

Drollery (ies)

(Unknown)—Also called grotesques, these are weird, hybrid creatures that usually have huge, human-like heads directly mounted to their legs. They have no torsos or arms. The legs can be human, or animal and the entire creature stands about three feet high. Some grotesqueries have two faces, or extra heads mounted on tails or stalks. These creatures likely were created in an alchemist’s lab, or perhaps from spontaneous generation, but no one knows why, for they have little utility. They can speak, but they are not educated or informed, and have little useful to say.
