Imperial Dynasty

The ruling dynasty of the HKE is House Orlockinas. This is the Aarchonian family that displaced the Liapanos as the imperial house. Their holdings include the Holy Karmithian Empire, Jordrium, and Aarchonia, although still they claim to be emperors of the old Karmithian Empire in its entirety, and the planet Aarthus as a whole. They take the universality of imperial power seriously.

The Orlockinas are in their ninth generation in power, and it is a minor offshoot of the Liapanos. The Liapanos are descendents of the Kamith, the founder of the Karmithian Empire. It is an unbroken, if very indirect, line of great antiquity.

Emperor Damian

Damianus Orlockinas has been emperor for fifty-five years, and he’s outlived all his own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. This puts imperial succession into question even more than it normally is. Primogeniture as such does not exist in the HKE, and a son can only inherit if invested by his living father, or proving his superior claim in a civil war. Of the emperor’s six brothers and sisters (all deceased), and their children and grandchildren, there are these cadet houses, followed by the head of the family.
